I was driving home, but there was a lot of rain.

( was driving, was) Driving home, there was a lot of rain.

Though I slept well, I looked tired in the morning.

Conjuction Though (looked tired)

On a count of him being late, we could not start the meeting.

(because)

Could not start

We could not start the meeting as he was late.
