At the BBFC they focus on helping children and families choose a film that is right for them
and what is not for them. The BBFC conducts regular research and they apply any research
they find to their current rulings. They have been working for over 100 years. The structure
of BBFC is designed to reflect and reinforce their rulings. The BBFC have family interests at
their hearts.

U rating means that the film is suitable for anyone aged 4 or over U films are set in a
positive way there should be a counter balance for an violence or horror
A Uc rating means that the film is suitable for preschool children and should raise no issues
or concerns.

PG stands for parental guidance which means that any film with this rating is suitable for
general viewing but some scenes may require parental guidance as some scenes may not
be suitable for young children. All children are allowed to watch a PG children aged 8 and
over but any children that are younger may need to be accompanied by an adult when
watching a PG

A 12A classification means that the film is suitable for people aged 12 or over. Anyone
younger than 12 should not be allowed to watch a 12A film unless they are accompanied by
an adult. Anyone under the age of 12 may not buy a 12A rated DVD unless they have an
adult that has allowed them to purchase the DVD.
A 15 classification means that people aged 15 or over. Anyone aged under 15 should not be
allowed to view the film as the film may include strong material that may not be appropriate
for anyone under the age of 15.

A 18 classification means that the film is suitable for anyone aged 18 or over. Anyone under
the age of 18 should not be allowed to watch the film as there is strong material which may
include violence,strong language or horror.

Film classification
As a group it has been decided that the short film that our group is making is a PG as there
is no violence or bad language included in our short film. Furthermore our short film is
suitable for all viewers which is why we have chosen PG.
