Contents Page Analysis

Repetition of the Masthead

This is conventionally located at the top of the page near the contents title.
This is done so that the people reading the magazine remember what brand
of magazine they are reading.

This issue of FourFourTwo does not have a repetition of the masthead so I

have used one from Empire magazine. The Empire logo is not as large as
the contents title which is conventional, however, it is in bold font that stands
out. This is so that people remember what the magazine is called and
creates a strong brand identity.

Issue information
Smaller text than the contents title but is usually positioned near the
issue number,month,year etc.

This contents page does not have any issue information so I have found
a contents page from Empire magazine that includes issue information.
The issue information for this magazine is underneath the contents title
in smallish font so that it does not steal the attention of the audience
from the information about what is in the magazine. The issue date for
this magazine is July 2012. The issue stands out because of the font that has been used
which will make it more noticeable amongst the rest of the information on the page. However
the colour of the font is placed so that it does not take away any of the attention for the main
purpose of the contents page.

Images
There are Multiple images to illustrate articles on the page. They are Usually positioned
together and they will usually be next to the relevant information. Mise en scene is used to
signify the genre this is to make them more appealing so that the audience is more likely to
read the magazine

In this issue of FourFourTwo magazine there are a lot of images that link to the different
articles that are in the magazine. Furthermore the images are quite large, especially the one
with Erling Haaland in this signifies that Haaland’s article is going to be the main feature. All
of the images are all different sizes especially the one with Liam on the front as the main
article is going to be about him so by making the image bigger it directs the attention of the
audience to the picture of liam gallagher.

Column Layout
Used to create structure and order to allow the audience to use and navigate around the
page easily. Conventionally there are 3 columns a page. The column include information of
the articles that will appear in the magazine

In this magazine the columns are underneath the contents title. Each section heading has its
own space and each one is divided by a number of lines. This shows that each section
heading is different from the others so the lines are there to divide each
heading into its own column. There are 4 different columns and four
two content pages. This

Image of front cover

This is Repeated on the contents page but is not too big this repeated
image acts a#s a reminder of what the front cover looks like and
reminds people what the magazine is going to be about

FourFourTwo magazine does not have an image of the front cover on my contents page so I
have used a contents page from Q.
The image of the front cover is repeated on the contents page, however, it is not very big as
the magazine producers do not the attention of the audience to shift from the information of
on the contents page to the image of the front cover as they will have already looked at the
front cover when they first picked up the magazine. The contents page has a large variety of
images this it to make it more visually appealing as this magazine is aimed at the lower and
middle class so by using mostly images it makes it more appealing to those social classes

Page numbers and additional information.

This is located at the bottom of the page small and in the outer corners page number and
then sometimes the masthead,issue information
In FourFourTwo magazine on the images there are the page numbers that each of the
articles are on and while some of them the numbers are enlarged and bold on some of them
the numbers are quite small and do not draw as much attention as much has the number 32
which is Haaland article this is because some articles are more important than others for
example on page 14 there is a article about Bruce Grobbelaar and the number 14 is in a big
bold font whereas on page 78 wich is the article about “the fight to save FC Mariupol'' the
number 78 is nowhere near as big as the number 14. This signifies that the article about
Bruce Grobbelaar is more important than the one about FC Mariupol.

Contents Title
Conventionally the contents title is at the top of the page and the largest text on the page as
it indicates the purpose of the page to the audience. The title is also usually visually
interesting which will make the page more appealing

The contents title in FourFourTwo magazine is not at the top of the page. The contents title
in this magazine is in the centre of the page, which grabs the audience’s attention. The font
used is quite large and stands out the most. The contents title in my magazine is in fact the
largest font on the page; this means that the word contents is what the audience would read
first on the page and by doing this the purpose of the page is immediately made clear, which
is to grab the reader's attention.

Section Headings
Section headings are used to separate the articles and help to create order for the audience
with often limited content and regular features. The text is smaller than the contents title but
bigger than the main body text. They also make the page easy to navigate and make the
page look neater therefore making it more visually appealing.

The section headings in this magazine are in the centre of the page underneath the contents
title. Each heading is a different colour which helps them stand out more; the colours used
are quite vibrant and some of the colours standout more than others. The red stands out the
most on the page which covers the features. This is done because within the features the
main article about Erling Haaland is mentioned this signifies the importance of the article.
Each of the section headings are different colours and some of the heading may be more
appealing then others due to this fract. Also it is noticeable that the section heading that
covers the main article is in the most vibrant colour to help it stand out

House Style
football club and the kit they wear when playing. The yellow has been used as it
complements the blue and helps it stand out more. The style of the fonts have been used on
the cover the masthead and all of the cover lines are in sans serif this font stands out which
helps get the information across to the audience. The style of the layout of the magazine is
clear and not cluttered as all of the coverline are straight and clear. The style of the
language is informal as there is a bizarre headline included on the front cover “my urine
helped Liverpool win the title.
