Double Page Spread


Headline
The Headline is conventionally the largest text on the page it is usually used to anchor
the meaning of the main image, the headline is used to indicate the purpose of the
article the headline sometimes can be a pull quote to intrigue the readers of the
magazine, the headline is usually designed to grab the reader's attention.

The Headline of the Double page spread for Grazia is “Aimee Lou Wood” is about the
main star of this double page spread. The reason it is just her name is because she is
the main focus of the article. The headline is the biggest text on the page and this is so
the audience knows what the main focus of the article is. The font of the headline is bold
and plain this brings more attention to it being linked with the main part of this double
page spread, the color of it is white because it stands out more against the grey
background and the positioning is just in the corner not over the main image but still
bringing attention to it and the subtext underneath it.

Main Image
The main image conventionally takes up two pages it may be spread across the
centerfold, the main image also may use direct address to engage the audience and the
mise en scene will usually visually signify content of the article.

The main image of the Grazia magazine is of Aimee Lou Wood and it takes up two
pages and is spread across the centerfold. Aimee Lou Wood is giving the audience a
direct address suggesting her importance in the article and to engage the readers of the
magazine. The mise en scene signifies that the magazine is a fashion magazine as the
main focus is Aimee Lou Wood in the clothes Grazia would advertise this would entice
the audience to buy the clothing as they would see it as trendy. The background is a
plain grey as it brings out the clothes more and the model herself the makeup is plain
but still vibrant against the lighter colours bringing focus to her face. The way she is
positioned makes her seem relaxed and calm telling the audience that the clothes
Grazia advertises are relaxing and comfy but still fashionable.

Standfirst
The Standfirst is like an introduction to the article it is usually positioned under the
headline of the first paragraph in, it is also conventionally smaller than the headline text
but is larger than the main body text.

The standfirst of the article is about Aimee Lou Wood talking to Shannon Mahanty about
fame, heartbreak and letting yourself feel everything. The standfirst is positioned in the
same column of the headline but it is found under the pull quote on this magazine. The
standfirst in this Grazia magazine follows the convention of being bigger than the main
body text but smaller than the headline.
By line
The by line is when the article credits the writer and photographer of the article and is
usually positioned near the headline or the end of the article.

The by line of the Grazia magazine is credited to the article stylist Michelle Duguid and
the photographer Dan Smith, it is found just below the standfirst it is put in bold writing
so the audience know who took and styled the photos but also to give the photographer
and stylist publicity. The positioning of it is underneath the sub writing it is smaller than
the main text so it doesn't draw away the attention from the sub writing but it is in a
different font so people still focus on it this would be important as it would help these
people later on if other fashion brands want to use them.

Drop Cap
The drop cap is the first letter of the article enlarged and dropping down into the main
body, this indicates the beginning of the article.

The drop cap on the Grazia is the first letter of the article but enlarged and dropping
down into the main body but this one swoops down into the actual text giving it more
style this could be because Grazia is a fashion brand and is usually aimed towards the
more upper class people. The drop cap colour is black this makes it stand out against
the white background and would entice people to read the text.

Main body text


The main body text is the body of text that makes up the article, it is the main body of
text of the page, it is also the smallest text on the page and is usually in a plain font.

The main body text of this Grazia magazine is about Aimee Lou Wood and it is the
smallest text on the page and also makes up the article. The main body text of this
article is small but in a sophisticated font this suggests that it is different to other
magazines and that it is a high class magazine not following the common plain font like
the others

Column Layout
The column layout creates structure and order making it easier for the audience to
navigate. The column layout is conventionally 3 columns per page.

The column layout of this Grazia magazine double page spread follows the conventional
three columns per page each one splitting the focus of the magazine but still making the
reader interested to read it. The column layout also creates a more structured and
orderly layout so the audience can easily follow it.

Page number and additional information


The page number and additional information is usually at the bottom of the page in the
outer corners the page number and information tends to be small and usually has the
masthead issue information.

The page number is the smallest on the page with no additional information about the
issue; it is at the bottom of both the pages of the Grazia magazine but on the first page
in the top right corner there is information about the clothes and the brands which
Aimee Lou Wood is wearing. The page number is used to create an orderly structure for
the audience to keep track of where everything is in the Grazia magazine.

Pull Quote
The pull quote is a quote from the article which is repeated in the bio, it is conventionally
positioned in the middle of the page. The pull quote draws the audience's attention,
making them want to read it.

The pull quote of the magazine is “It starts to feel like everyone owns a part of you” this
would entice the readers into reading what has happened in the article and find out what
she is talking about. It also creates an enigma drawing in the curiosity of the readers so
the audience would read on. The pull quote of the Grazia magazine is found under the
main heading this is conventional because it ties the pull quote with the main focus of
the magazine and not positioned in the middle as this would draw the attention away
from the main focus of the advert Aimee Lou Wood.

Secondary Images
Secondary images are any other images that are featured in the article. Secondary
images would be additional to the main image and would provide more visual
information about the article for the audience.

The secondary image of the Grazia magazine is found on the secondary double page
spread in the middle column it is of the show Sex Education and the actresses Aimee
Lou Wood and Emma Mackey this would be involved with the article as it about the new
season and what Aimee Lou Wood’s role would be in that season this would entice the
audience to read further into the magazine and potentially watch the show.

House Style
The house style is the style of the brand this will reflect the genre of the brand and the
target audience of that brand the house style also follows a certain font style and color
scheme

The Grazias double page is the style of the brand that will reflect the genre in this case
the style of the double page spread is posh and fancy this reflects the mostly upper
class fashion style of Grazia. The color scheme for the double page spread is gray and
yellow. The grays and bright yellows could follow the autumn color scheme because the
leaves in autumn tend to be a vibrant yellow color and the sky becoming a calm gray;
this would make it more appealing to readers as it would suit the autumn aesthetic and
would make sense as the images on the double page spread were for the magazine
which was published in autumn

The font style of Grazia’s double page spread is a very fancy but simple style with the
color scheme for the writing being black and white. The colour scheme for the writing
makes the font standout more against the plain gray and white backgrounds of these
pages; this would draw the attention of the audience making them focus on the key
points of the double page spread while the Headlines and pull quotes are larger than
the other writing signifying the importance they share to the article.
