Contents Page Analysis.


Contents title.
The contents title is conventionally at the top of the page. It is the largest text on a page and
it indicates the purpose of the page to the audience.

The contents title on Grazia magazine is located at the very top of the page. As we can see
it is the biggest font size on the page to help it stand out
against the rest of the text. The style of the font is very big
and clear which makes it easy to read and allows the
audience to navigate around the page easily. The font style
is also very plain and simple which also allows the audience
to read effortlessly and without any hassle.

Repetition of masthead.
The masthead is sometimes repeated at the top of a page
near the ‘contents title’. The masthead of the magazine
includes the name of the magazine and conventionally has a
bold, bright, large and unique font that is used to draw the attention of the audience.

Grazia does not include this so an example of repetition of the masthead is at the top of the
contents page “Q” is repeated on this page. The letter “Q” is repeated on the contents page
to outline the brand of the magazine and to draw the audience's attention since it is
highlighted against the red in white. It also creates recognition of the magazine brand and
hooks the audience onto it since they will remember the Q logo at the top of pages.

Section headings.
Section headings are text that are used to separate the article into sections. It helps to
create order for the audience and keep everything consistent and tidy on a page.
It will often be linked to a regular and featured content relative to that magazine. It uses a
smaller font than the contents and it is bigger than the main body text.

The section headings on the contents page for Grazia magazine are small but bold and they
use a different, more bolder and strickening font to the other text around the page so that the
audience can efficiently acknowledge that they are headings.. The font is bolder so it stands
out and the section headings also help the reader find what they are looking for with ease.
An example of this would be the News section heading as it gives general information and
current events and topics that are trending. Another example would be the featured section
as this appeals to the audience since many would have picked up the magazine since they
saw Amy Lou modelling on the front cover, so this appeals to the audience since it is
something they are interested in.

Issue information.
Issue information is the text smaller than the contents title but it is usually positioned near it
or next to it. It includes the issue number, month and year.
The price of the magazine and other additional information is located at the bottom of a
magazine.

The issue information for Grazia magazine is located on the right side of the page and this is
because it helps keep everything tidy and in place creating
order and structure to the text. The text is highlighted by the
yellow and white boxes which helps it to stand out against
the rest of the page. The paragraph starts off by welcoming
the audience to the issue and goes on to talk about the
contents of the magazine such as featured celebs like Amy
Lou and their Autumn Hot List. it is laid out like this because
it is a short paragraph that engages the audience by talking
about what kind of things they will be discussing and gives
little hints so that the reader wants to continue reading and
get them hooked on

The front cover image may be repeated on the contents page however it is not big.

An example of an image of the front cover included in a contents page is Q magazine


contents page. On the right hand side of the page at the top Q magazine features the front
cover image. Repetition of the front cover creates recognition and brand loyalty between the
brand and consumer. It also helps create and establish the brand of the magazine and it also
makes it look visually appealing and interesting to the audience.

Multiple images are used to illustrate the articles on a page and they're usually
positioned together. It is visually interesting to the buyer and uses relevant
mise en scene that signifies the genre of the magazine. Images also help to
keep the article aesthetically pleasing and helps create depth and emotion.

On the contents page for Grazia magazine there are many images cut out onto
the page, all of the images are relevant to the genre of the magazine. There
are images of people who are featured in the magazine and there is home
decor such as chairs, there are accessories and clothes that all keep the
magazine consistent with the fashion theme. They're all edited together by
being cut out and placed on one another or around one another such as the
sunglasses and how they overlap on the woman wearing the pink outfit, and
the shawl overlaps her too, this is done to create a montage and helps keep
the page interesting and creative. It is very visually pleasing and creates a stylish and chic
look on the magazine. The images also have connotations of creativity and inspiration. It
also appeals to the audience since the genre of Grazia magazine is fashion based, it
includes images of clothing, accessories and home decor which all relate to the genre which
appeals to the audience.

Page numbers.
Page numbers are used to help link and bring the article together. Page numbers make the
magazine easy to navigate their way around a magazine. This is important because if a
magazine is not easily navigable then readers may find it difficult to read which makes it
more likely that they won't buy the magazine.

The page numbers located on Grazia magazine are at the bottom corners for each page,
this helps to navigate and help readers work their way through the magazine.

Page numbers are also shown on the list underneath contents and this allows the audience
to navigate their way around the magazine and help them get to any specific page they want
under a certain category e.g news or features or fashion.

Layout of articles.
The article first has a title to fit the genre of the magazine and this title is usually in a much
larger, bigger and bolder font and a different colour to the main text.
The contents page also has page numbers to help navigate the magazine and keep
everything visually pleasing. Smaller headings usually have the same simple plain font that
is used for each small heading throughout the magazine. There is smaller text that is used to
display other kinds of information to the reader.

The layout of Grazia magazine is very fun, bright and yet together and tidy.
It is easily navigable which is important because if it wasn't and readers found it hard to read
and navigate they wouldn't have a positive experience with it therefore that would lead them
to probably not buying it again. The article's titles also fits the genre of the magazine.
However, Grazia’s content page follows some of the layout but not all, it differs slightly due to
the fact that it is a fashion magazine and they play around with the style and layout of the
page to make it look different, chic and fun. Grazia's contents page has the cover stories
highlighted in a bright yellow colour to make it stand out to the audience and so that it grabs
their attention. The column layout makes everything look nice and put together.

Column layout.
Column layout is used to create structure and order to allow the audience to use and
navigate around the page easily, there are conventionally 3 columns to a page.
Column layout is also important because it helps to keep everything neat and tidy on a
magazine, this is important so that the reader knows what to do and where they need to go
for certain things.

In Grazia magazine the layout is structured in short rows that give information on different
categories and pages with numbers throughout the magazine. The column layout helps
make everything look put together and tidy and also helps the audience to easily navigate
their way around the magazine. An example of this is the heading ‘NEWS’ and below it there
are page numbers which relate to the title of it.
