Contents Page Analysis

Contents Title
The contents title is conventionally placed at the top of the page and is usually the
largest font on the page. The contents title indicates the purpose of the page to the
audience.

There is no content title on this contents page and for what I can find there is not a
content title on any Take a Break magazine.

Layout of Articles
The page number first, followed article name/title which is usually in a bigger, bolder
and different colour font to the main body text, a simple + plain font which is small
gives more information about the article.
The layout of articles on this issue of Take a Break is placed on the right side of the
magazine in a vertical line, they start off with the number which is in a yellow font. It
is quite a small font but it does stand out on the blue background, this is then
followed by the title of the article which is in a bold white font placed next to the page
number then next to that is the article name which is in a smaller font.

Images
Multiple images to illustrate articles on the page. They are usually positioned
together. They will be visually interesting, with relevant mise en scene that signifies
the genre.

There are multiple images on this issue of Take a Break such as an image of an
article further on in the magazine, the image is of two children smiling to the camera,
the photo is taken from a mid shot. The next image is a city with big buildings and a
wide field of nature, this could be an article of somewhere to go on holiday which a
lot of people, especially people in the target audience of Take a Break would love to
go on a holiday and take a break. There are many images of household items such
as cushions, lamps and vases. This could be about an article advertising cheap
household items, which people in the target audience of Take a Break might’ve just
moved into a new house or are just looking for new furniture.

Issue information
The issue information is in a smaller font than the contents title but is visually
positioned near it, issue number, month, year etc…

The issue information on this issue of Take a Break is one of the smallest fonts on
the page and is located on the bottom right hand corner of the page. It is in a small
black font as it is not exactly important. The issue information only includes the issue
number, and the volume number.

Image of front cover


An image of the front cover is often repeated on the contents page, but it is not too
big on the page.

On this issue of Take a Break there is no image of the front cover on the contents
page and for what I can find there is no image of the front cover on any Take a Break
magazine.

Repetition of masthead
Sometimes at the top of the page near the content title the masthead is repeated.

On this issue of Take a Break the masthead is repeated multiple times around the
page. It is mostly located at the bottom, for example in the right corner and left
corner.
Column layout
Column layout is used to create structure and order to allow the audience to use and
navigate around the page easily. Conventionally 3 columns a page.

The column layout on this issue of Take a Break has 3 columns on the page, two of
them just talk about what is coming up in this week's issue of Take a Break and one
which consists of the articles and page numbers.

Page numbers and captions on images


This is used to link them to an article.

On this issue of Take a Break on the contents page there are a variety of images
which have page numbers on them, this just helps to link this image with the article.

Page number and additional information


These are at the bottom of the page, they are small in the outer corners, page
number and then sometimes the masthead, issue information.

On this issue of Take a Break the page number is a small black font in the bottom
right corner, this is surrounded by the issue information and the masthead.

Section Headings
Section headings is text used to separate the article into sections, this helps create
order for the audience. It will often be linked to regular and feature content. It is
smaller text than the contents title but bigger than the body text.

The section headings on this issue of Take a Break are in a big yellow font, this helps
separate the articles into sections and helps the audience to find what they want to
read about. at the top of the page it shows the page numbers for the different articles
that were on the front cover.
