Contents title
Conventionally at the top of the page. The purpose is to inform the audience of the content
and where to find it.

issue information
Smaller text than contents title but usually positioned near it -issue number month etc.
In Empire magazine - the contents title is at the top of the page as it makes the word
‘Contents’ more bold and it is Red and makes it easier to read. The issue information is at
the bottom of the page, but because of the yellow background and the text in red and black it
makes it contrast and easy for the audience to read. It tells the audience the month and year
(October 2021)

Image front cover *

Images
Multiple images to illustrate articles on the page . Usually positioned together. Will be visually
interesting with relevant mise en scene that signifies the gene. In Empire magazine there
are 2 images - The first is of Thomasin McKenzie and the second is of ELba Pensive the
magazine says that the first actor is in Last Night In SoHo and the other is in Beasts Of No
Nation. The mise en scene is as follows - the expression on the fist on is a bit scared and
shocked and the second on is a bit afraid and worried which suggests that something
dramatic and scary is about to happen.

Repetition of mast head

Sometimes at the top of the page near the contents title.

In Empire magazine ,at the bottom of the page there is a small empire logo that is hard to
see and blends into the background and to me it isn't very visible to see or useful to see,
and it is red which makes it stand out to some extent.

Column layout
Used to create structure and order to allow the audience to use and navigate around the
page easily. The content is laid out into four columns and the content is also split into
sections which makes it easier to navigate for the audience. It conventionally has 3 columns.

In Empire magazine The content is laid out into four columns so it doesn't follow the typical
conventions of a content page, and the content is also split into sections which makes it
easier to navigate round the page for the audience. Also the black text on the white
background makes it easier to read. Also the font is clear to read which helps the audience
to see it more clearly.

Page number and additional info

At the bottom of the page, it’s small and in the outer corners page number+then sometimes
on the masthead and issue number or information.
In Empire magazine, the page number and additional info is at the bottom of the page and
because of the yellow background and the red and black text it makes it easier to read.
Layout of articles
Page number first followed by article name/ title which is usually in a bigger bolder different
color or font to the main body text. Simple and plain font -small. Gives more information
about the article.
The house style of the magazine is black and red which goes throughout the magazine. In
contents the page numbers are large and red and black seems to be the house style of this
magazine . And under each content’s title there is some information on the article.

Section headings
Text used to separate the articles into sections. Helps to create order for the audience will
often be linked to regular+feature content smaller text than the contents title but bigger than
main body text.

In Empire magazine, the different section headings help to separate the content of the
magazine which makes it easier to read. The section heading is black and is in bold and is
bigger than the text below which suggests that it is a title also as it is black it fits into the
magazine's color code. Also there is a black line underneath the title which points out that it
is a title.
