How sound works

Every sound is made by vibrations, when you speak your throat vibrates. Vibration is the
back and forth movement of an object. Sound energy travels in the form of sound waves,
transverse waves and longitudinal waves. With the particles being so close together in a
solid, sound travels the fastest, the particles in a liquid are slightly further apart therefore
sound takes a little longer to travel through it, in a gas the particles are spread out, which
means the waves travel the slowest through it. The number of waves passing through a
point in a second is called frequency. Sound waves travel in all directions.
