GATHERING DATA
Gathering data begins after a research problem OBJECTIVE
has been defined and the research design has
been planned. Data are characteristics or Differentiate qualitative and quantitative

Answers:
1.) Experiments.
In this scenario, we need to run experiments as part of a clinical trial to determine the
effectiveness of the vaccine. This method is considered to be the best because it is the only
way to determine the safety and effectiveness of treatment or intervention on humans.
2.) Survey.
In this scenario, a good method of data collection would be a survey to gather insights
from Facebook users about their satisfaction with the Facebook app. An online survey can be
sent to a sample of Facebook users who regularly use the app.
3.) Observation.
In this scenario, observation can be used to record the effect of tsunami on the coastal
area. Data collection would involve observing the coastal areas before and after the tsunami
and noting the changes in the ecosystem. An ethnographic approach may also be useful to
interview the local residents and understand their perspective on the impact of the tsunami
with and without mangrove trees.
4.) Survey.
The best method for data collection in this scenario would be a survey of governmental
agencies to understand the plan of action. Archive document research can also be useful in
this case, as government plans are documented.
7.) Observation.
In this scenario, observational and documentary research would be appropriate. The
documentary research can include historical research on earthquakes and its impact on
communities to provide a comprehensive understanding of earthquakes and its effects on
high school students.
8.) Ethnographic.
In this scenario, an ethnographic and survey research method would be appropriate. The
survey research can be conducted to gather information about the sources of livelihood of
the 50 people in Barangay Tahimik using a structured questionnaire. The questionnaire can
be validated through a pilot test and can be administered face-to-face or through a web-
based survey. The results can be analyzed statistically and reported in a paper.
9.) Survey.
In this scenario, the best method of data collection would be a survey. The questions can
be designed to cover topics such as the economy, government policies, and their impact on
businesses. The questions can be administered either face-to-face or through online.
