Professional Documents
Culture Documents
This is a compilation of the documents related to the major curriculum revision of the Engineering
Faculty which would be implemented for the Intake 2020 onwards.
The curriculum revision consists of three volumes to cater for the existing documents and potential
future documentation activities as follows:
The Faculty Curriculum Revision was a two-stage process and the timeline details are as follows;
SIGNIFICANT FEATURES
1. Essential amendments to the BSc Eng. & BSc TLM performance Criteria
Updating of credit definition and norm, name of the degree program, designations and
responsibilities, grade point values to comply with the UGC circular 901/25112008; Amendments
to the effective date of the BSc Engineering & BSc Transport and Logistics Management degrees,
tie-breaker module information for specializations subject to field selection; and other minor
corrections/improvements such as: removing repetitions, rewording and reorganizing
information for clarity.
2. Introduction of guidelines for curriculum preparation
3. Introduction of the Faculty Electives and relevant guidelines
4. Revisions to the curriculum templates, forms and documentation
5. Re-structuring modules academic programs to maintain integer credit values.
6. Reducing content overlapping and repetitions by amalgamation of modules
7. Defining a norm for module credit value as 3(+/- 1) and to have minimal number of modules
with a credit rating of 2.
8. Comply with the IESL & Washington Accord guidelines on credit definition
9. A maximum of 15 NGPA credits to be claimed to fulfil the graduation credit requirement
10. Introduction of streams Cyber Security [CS], Biomechanical Engineering [ME] and minors Pattern
Recognition [EN], Mathematics [MA].
11. Introduction of the module XX3880 Engineer & Society [by replacing modules MN1012
Engineering in Context and MN4900 Professional Ethics] to develop the awareness among
engineering undergraduates on the importance of working ethically and professionally as a
responsible citizen.
12. Change of the department name from Textile and Clothing Technology to Textile and Apparel
Engineering
13. Coordination and delivery of the Humanities modules were handed over to the Department of
Languages and module code letters were changed to HM [from DE].
14. Changes to the module codes, offering semesters, credit values, outlines and introduction or
removal of modules

Total credits for the program [graduation requirement] 150 5 Total credits [SLQF 7] 150
1. Credit rating is 3 (+/- 1) and only integer values. Specialization modules may have up to 5 credits. Projects, Industrial Training etc. may have higher values.
2. Should follow the IESL & Washington Accord guidelines on credit definition.
3. Offering semesters - 5 & 6 with a credit distribution 1:2; Offered under department codes [identical to industrial training module]
4. Recommended to earn at least 12 credits from the Faculty Elective modules. [to be determined based on the specialization delivery requirements].
5. A maximum of 15 NGPA credits can be claimed to fulfill the graduation requirement.

[EUGS/FCRC/FE-2020/1P-V1 approved by the 466 FBM on 20201203]
A) Procedural requirements:
1. The Senate approved specialization curriculum must clearly indicate the number of credits that the students are required to complete the respective
field of specialization. Students may take course modules from their specialization or faculty electives (offered by the same or a different
specialization) to fulfill the remaining credits needed for graduation.
2. The list of modules offered as faculty electives should appear at the end of the offering department’s Senate approved specialization curricula.
3. The core/elective modules that count for a specialization/focus area may be opened to others as “faculty electives”. Pre-requisites could be
considered when restrictions are to be enforced on the eligibility of enrolling for a faculty elective module. However, all such pre-requisites should
either be other faculty electives or courses available to at least some students outside the specialization (i.e., it should be possible for a student
outside the specialization to take a faculty elective).
4. The number of faculty elective modules offered by each department and appropriate offering criteria are to be determined by the offering
department.
5. Inter-department coordination and common time-slots for faculty elective modules will be essential for the successful implementation of the
proposal.
B) Offering mechanism:
1. Each department will publicize a list of course modules offered as faculty electives and should offer a minimum of 12 credits worth of modules
(including but not exclusive to those included in minors) as faculty electives.
2. Departments may choose to impose a reasonable class limit on the number of students who can select each module. If such a limit is imposed, there
should be a requirement of spaces for students of other specializations [at least equal to the number of students in the offering field].
3. Departments may, if they see fit, so arrange the lineup of course modules to lead to minors. [currently available minors MN, EL and MA].
