SUMMER HOLIDAY HOME WORK (2023-2024)

CLASS: XII SUBJECT: Physics

Task 1: Project

Topic / Name of the project Physics Investigatory Project

One Investigatory project along with the project report is to be submitted by students.

Normally report of the project is made on A4 size colour pages (Around 20 pages -

written one sided )

Format of Project:

• Cover page

• Certificate

• Acknowledgement

• Aim

• Apparatus

• Introduction

• Theory

• Diagram/ Circuit Diagram

• Photograph of student performing project

• Procedure

• Observations and Observation Table

• Result

• Conclusion

• Precaution

• Bibilography
( These are general points to be written on file, these may be modified depending

upon the nature of project)

Suggested Investigatory Project:

1. To study the effect of magnetic field/emf on speed of motor.

2. To study the effect of distance on Mutual induction.

3. To study eddy currents.

4. To study the effect of distance and wavelength on fringe width in YDSE.

5. To find the refractive index of various materials using hollow prism.

6. To study the factor on which self Inductance of a coil depends.

Or any other project related with the topics of Class XII.

Task 2:
Assignment

Section A

1. If Coulomb’s Law involved 1/r3 dependence (instead of 1/r2), would 1

Gauss law be still true? Why?

2. Plot a graph showing the variation of resistance of a conducting wire as a 1

function of its length, keeping the radius of the wire and its temperature
as constant.

3. How will you obtain a resistance of (11/5) Ω from the resistances of 1 Ω, 2 1

Ω and 3 Ω?
4. A narrow beam of protons and alpha particle, each having the same 1
momentum, enters a region of uniform magnetic field directed
perpendicular to their direction of momentum. What would be the ratio
of the radii of circular paths described by them?
Section B
5. Eight identical point charges 1µC each are placed at the corners of a cube 2
of each side 0.1 m. Calculate the electric field at the centre if one of the
corner charge is removed.

6. How does electric field and electric potential due to a point charge vary 2
with the distance from the point charge? Draw a single graph to show the
relationship.

7. A wire of 15 Ω resistance is gradually stretched to double its original 2

length. It is then cut into two equal parts. These parts are then connected
in series across a 3 volt battery. Find the current drawn from the battery.

Section C

8. Using Gauss’s law obtain the expression for the electric field due to an 3
infinite thin sheet of charge. Draw a graph showing the variation of
electric field.

9. Three identical capacitors C1, C2 and C3 of capacitance 6 µF each are 3

connected to a 12 V battery as shown.
Find:
(i) charge on each capacitor
(ii) equivalent capacitance of the network
(iii) energy stored in the network of capacitors

10. Derive an expression for the force experienced by two parallel current 3
carrying wires carrying in same direction and hence define one ampere.
