Goal Setting: Journal

by Jaden D’souza
Grade 10

1. Three things I would like to accomplish in the next several months is passing
my G1 drivers licence, volunteer hours and start working part time. Passing my G1
drivers licence is truly important to me because the sooner I start studying for my G1 the
closer I will be to passing my G1 drivers test. This goal is within my power to accomplish
it because I will turn six-teen in january which means I will be old enough to take the
test. What I need to do in order to succeed in completing this goal is to set aside some
free time starting in november to study everything that is going to be on my G1 drivers
test. Finishing my volunteer hours and start working a part time job is truly important to
me because finishing my volunteer hours now removes the stress of dealing with that
obstacle in the future when I may not have time for that, also starting to work a part time
job is important to me because it means I can help fund my higher education my self.
This goal is within my power to accomplish because I can volunteer at plasp which is at
my brothers school which is not far. I can also start a part time job when I finnish my
volunteer hours because I would be six-teen in three months which gives me time to
finnish my hours and would mean I qualify for a part time job, also I have my resume
updated and ready to go.

2.One time I had succeeded in something because I made it my goal and

committed to it is when I started Gr.9 and decided after getting my first 90 that getting a
90 should be a standard whenever I’m doing something academic. What happened was
that after I got my first 90 which was so easy I analysed what enabled me to get a 90
that easily. After that I have used my same formula to get the best grade I can till this
day. This made me feel more devoted and motivated to achieve my goal every time,
even when I failed sometimes because the ultimate failure would be the failure of not
trying. What I learned from that experience is that the best should not be your goal
when the very best could be your goal.

3.One time I had tried to accomplish something but came up short is when I tried
out for the Gr.5 basketball team and did not make the cut. What had happened was I
practiced like everyone else for the same amount of time and I watched tips and tricks
on how to get better, but I still failed and did not make the team. I dealt with this failure
by playing and practicing more and more. What I learned from this experience is that
even if you practice and play like the other kids you will never be the best you have to
put in 100% of your effort and practice and play two or three more times than everyone
else. This is because if you want to be hardest to beat you have to practice the
hardest. One thing that is positive that came out of it was that next year I practice and
played twice as much as last year and this time I made the basketball team.
