Greet the classroom.
Show them the word cloud including target words on the whiteboard.
Ask them if they are familiar with any of these words.
Handout blank papers or ask them or have blank papers.
Tell them “Now, look at the word cloud on the whiteboard and pick up the words one by one,
look them on the online or hardcopy dictionary and write an example sentence. You have 5
minutes to complete this.”
After they complete it, the teacher elicits a sentence for each word from students. “Okay, so
today, as you may guess, we are going to read a text about restaurant advertisement. We are
going to examine how they advertise and we are going to create our own advertisement posts
and finish up with an assignment as usual.”

Instruct and Model 10 Mins. XR ❑ W ❑ L ❑ S

After students complete word cloud tasks, the teacher goes like,
“Now, we are going to read a text about restaurant advertisements. In the text, there are three
parts and each part’s title is missing. Your first task is reading it and choosing the best title for
each part. Please don’t move onto the next task until everybody finishes.”
The teacher hands out the worksheets; waits for students to complete the first task;
gives/elicits answers.
“Now, you can move onto the second task. You are going to read the text again one more time.
You have probably noticed the blank spaces within the text. What you are going to do is,
checking three points and placing them to the right parts in the text.”
The teacher waits for students to complete the tasks and gives/elicits answers.

Guided Practice 15 Mins. XR ❑ W ❑ L XS

“So, here comes the fun part! Choose a friend to work with and pick up your phones please.
Here you see some instagram accounts on the whiteboard. Individually, you are going to
inspect these accounts and choose one post from each. Totally you are going to have 5 posts
and then you are going to share chosen posts with your partner. You can share it via instagram
or you can just basically hand over your phone and you are going to tell your partner why you
have chosen that post, what was attractive to you etc.”
As students do the task, the teacher walks around, checks students and scaffolds them if they
need. Also, the teacher be sures about they use English as a classroom language.

Independent Practice 20 Mins. ❑ R XW ❑ L ❑ S

The teacher asks what they have done the previous week. The teacher reminds them of the
restaurant lesson that they have done.
“Now, we move a little bit further. Think of your restaurant, your menu, your ambiance and
other things. You want to be heard on social media now. Think of an instagram post for your
restaurant. You may get inspired from the previous posts that you have checked. You are
allowed to use your phones or computer, or you can create your design on paper. Choose the
best option for yourself. However, at the end of the lesson, you need to take a photograph and
post it on the classroom WhatsApp chat group with your caption or texts included. Feel free to
ask for any kind of help.”
The teacher waits for students to finish and post.

Assessment 5 Mins. ❑ R XW ❑ L ❑ S
“Thanks for all the posts. To assess today, I’d like you to check your partner’s post on the
WhatsApp group and provide him/her some written feedback. Please text your feedback on
the group.”

1. _____________________________________
So what is restaurant marketing and how can it help my business? Take Instagram as an
example. According to Social Media Today, 30% of millenials do not choose restaurants with
poor Instagram feeds. Since people are getting more digital, it is important for restaurants to go
online.

● Provides information and opens communication with customers

● ____________________________________________
● Allows you to share your food and recipes visually online
● Adds professionalism and legitimacy to your restaurant

Nowadays, your restaurant should also be using social media as a channel to keep the lines of
communication open between you and your guests in addition to a marketing channel.

2. _______________________________________

Restaurants use social media to connect with patrons in fun, useful, and creative ways. Here
are some of the ways restaurants are using social media sites like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter,
and more:

● Post high quality items of food

● Post seasonal, daily, or weekly menus
● Showcase customer content
● Communicate with customers
● ____________________________
● Show behind the scenes shots and videos
● Highlight employees like chefs, servers, bartenders, and others
3. ___________________________________

To create an online social media account for your business, follow these steps:

● Create a business profile on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, or YouTube for

your restaurant.
● _______________________________________________________
● Add a bio to each page you create and include your restaurant’s website, location,
hours, menu, and how to contact you.
● Post content and use the restaurant social media marketing tips below to engage with
customers and attract new ones.
