Scenario: MANILA, Aug 13 (Reuters) - The Philippines reported on Friday its second-largest daily increase in COVID-19 infections,
providing more evidence of how the virulent Delta variant may be spreading and ramping up pressure on the country's already
stretched healthcare system.

CLINICAL EYE:
-On Friday, the health ministry
recorded 13,177 new
coronavirus infections, the
most since a daily tally of
15,310 on April 2, bringing
total cases to 1.71 million,
second only to Indonesia in
Southeast Asia.
EVIDENCES:
-Nurse to patient ratio is
usually 1-5, now they handle up
to 12 patients.
RIGHT TO PRIVACY:
-Nurses should be able to
provide a clean room that are
exclusive to their patients, as
much as they can.
-Patients have the right to their
legal documents and medical
information that it should be
kept confidential.
RIGHT TO MAKE INFORMED
DECISIONS/CHOICES:
-Inform the patient about
taking the vaccine.
RELATIONSHIP BUILDING:
-Establish a good, trusting
relationship that has proper
communication with the
patient.
-Make sure to provide care
therapeutically.
-Reassurance should be given,
and let the patient know they
could always call for help, and
would be able to receive it
immediately.
PERFORMING A NURSING
TASK:
PAST EXPERIENCES:
-Nurses remembers how
medical workers and their
parents take care of them when
they had experienced any of the
illnesses mentioned as a
symptom of COVID.
-The reassurance was given to
them to make them feel
comfortable and safe despite
being sick, and it helped them
recover easily as they didn’t
received actions that may cause
them to feel stressed.
-8-hour shift was extended to
16 hours.
-Nurses have skipped their
meals, and breaks due to
attending to COVID-19 patients
with moderate to severe
conditions.
-Hundreds of hospitals nearing
capacity.
-Running out of equipment in
some facilities, and also health
workers.
-Patients should have the
freedom to decide if they want
to get a shot or not, it should
not be forced.
-Inform the patient about the
possible effects of the vaccine,
and how it could help them.
-Nurses should prepare
themselves first. Be sanitized
and clean, properly wearing
their protective gears and
equipment.
-Tasks should be done with
precise and excellent skills.
-Make sure that when patients
are directly involved with a
task, they should be
comfortable before anything
else.
SELF-AWARENESS:
-They should be able to provide
the reassurance their patients’
need, especially when facing a
severe illness that could really
stress them out. Their actions
must be thought-out and be
done with calmness that would
prevent their patients from
feeling too much panic and fear.

NURSING KNOWLEDGE:
-Nurses should make sure to
keep themselves sanitized and
protected from the virus before
they attend to their patients to
avoid more spreading.
-Nurses should arrange
patients according to their
conditions to ensure they are
given the right treatment.
-Monitoring is a must so that
changes and development may
be recorded and the data could
show if the given treatment is
working.
