SUMMER SMART CLASSES GUIDE

An educational programme for students of

public and private education applying to the
Ministry’s curriculum

202019 Curriculum and Assessment Sector

Introduction
The Smart Summer Classes Programme is one of the assessment stations that support students' skills. It is implemented after the end of the school year 2019/2020
results, and it targets students of public and private education applying to the curriculum of the Ministry of Education. It includes three programmes:
1st. Developing the reading skill of Cycle 1 Grades’ students .
2nd. Raising the performance of students who have not passed a course, or more in Grades 4 -12.
3rd. Improving the end of year average by 10% for students from Grades 4 -12.
Smart summer classes depend on the student's self-learning through educational platforms within a specific time schedule. They are characterized by flexibility in
dealing with the contents of self-learning or assessment procedures accessible on the platform. This would contribute to raising the efficiency of student
performance, and enabling him to target the skills targeted in the programme, in addition to taking responsibility for his/her learning and assessment.
The implementation of this programme reflects the Ministry of Education's keenness to empower the student with all required skills, according to the educational
outcomes specified in the learning processes, which are linked to the planner implemented during the school year 2019/2020.
This Guide explains all procedures associated with implementing students’ Smart Summer Classes.

Learning Steps in Smart Summer Classes
1. Students are centrally attached to smart summer classes, and a set of stories is assigned to them every week. Upon completion of reading these stories
and doing their activities correctly, students can obtain points or awards in the broad scope of knowledge and information.
2. Students participate in reading competitions that are centrally created on the platform, according to the reading level of each class. As each student is
given access to his overall rank, and the points earned, which are calculated for him when reading each story and correctly answering its questions and
doing its exercises within each competition in which he participates.
3. The audio and video notification system is activated to alert students who are assigned the story collection, and to view the assignment or activities got
when directly log in.
4. Parents can follow the student through reports that reflect the extent of their children's interaction with the (Nahla and Nahil) platform:
▪ The number of stories read by the student.
▪ The number of hours spent on the platform by the student.
▪ The number of tasks accomplished by the student.
▪ The overall ranking of the student compared to the category attending the summer classes.
