ENGINE MAINTENANCE MANUAL (PART NO.3072702)

TASK 05-20-00-210-801

1. Scheduled Maintenance Checks

A. General

(1) This section contains the minimum Pratt & Whitney Canada approved engine maintenance
inspection checks (based on flight hours as defined in the airworthiness limitations section of this
manual (Ref. AIRWORTHINESS), or calendar times whichever occurs first) and are intended to
coincide with airframe inspection intervals (not to exceed the listed frequencies). Detailed
procedures are provided, where applicable, in the relevant INSPECTION/CHECK sections of
subject chapters in this manual. A list of the explanation of terms is given in CHAPTER 72-00-00,
INSPECTION.

HARD COPY IS UNCONTROLLED. ONCE PRINTED, THIS PAGE MUST NOT BE RETAINED FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.
(2) Rotor component life limitations as outlined in the AIRWORTHINESS LIMITATIONS section of
this manual, override all other scheduled activities.

(3) Operators may choose other maintenance programs. It is the operator's responsibility to obtain
individual maintenance program approval from their local airworthiness authority.

BEFORE USING, MAKE SURE THIS HARD COPY IS THE LATEST ISSUE.
(4) The scheduled maintenance checks include the following:

(a) Recommended Maintenance Tasks listed in Table 1.

(b) Engine Hot Section Inspections.

(c) Engine Overhauls.

(d) Low Utilization Engine Inspections (L.U.I.).

B. Time Limited Dispatch (TLD)

(1) At intervals of 630 flight hours or one calender year (whichever comes first) the EEC must be
interrogated for EEC faults (Ref. Task 72-00-02-810-801). Do the corrective actions on the
detected faults as indicated by the fault codes.
NOTE: TLD faults may be identified by viewing the Maintenance Computer display page (Refer
to the AMM).

(2) If Long Term Dispatch (LTD) faults are found before the end of 630 flight hours or one calender
year interrogation interval, flight is allowed, however all of the faults must be cleared before the
end of 630 flight hours or one calender year interrogation interval (Ref. Airworthiness Limitations,
Task 00-00-00-860-803, Time Limited Dispatch).
NOTE: LTD status is indicated in the Aircraft Central Maintenance Computer. If LTD is active,
the Maintenance Message "LONG DISPATCH" will be displayed as a maintenance
message.

(3) At the time of the inspection, if it is noted that the LTD indication is set in the Aircraft Maintenance
Computer, but there are no related faults latched, it is required to download the information from
the Data Collection Unit (DCU) to check for intermittent TLD faults. All TLD faults data from the
most recent 10 flights must be reviewed and rectified, unless the fault was induced by
maintenance action.

(4) After the inspection is completed, the LTD status should be cleared. (Ref. Task
71-00-00-760-823), TLD Clear Procedure (Long Dispatch).

(5) All faults indicated by the EEC must be cleared at this interval.

C. Recommended Maintenance Tasks

(1) Do the Scheduled Inspections of the PW535E series engines in accordance with Table 1.

(2) Task Type Definitions:

(a) GVI - General Visual Inspection: A visual examination of an interior or exterior area,
installation or assembly to detect obvious damage, failure or irregularity. This level of
inspection is made from within touching distance, unless otherwise specified. A mirror may
be necessary to enhance visual access to all exposed surfaces in the inspection area. This
level is made under normally available lighting conditions such as daylight, hanger lighting,
flashlight or drop light and may require removal or opening of access panels or doors.
Stands, ladders or platforms may be required to gain proximity to the area being checked.

(b) DET - Detailed Inspection: An intensive visual examination of a specific item, installation or
assembly to detect damage, failure or irregularity. Available lighting is normally
supplemented with a direct source of good lighting at an intensity deemed appropriate.
Inspection aids such as mirrors, magnifying lenses etc. may be necessary. Surface
cleaning and elaborated access procedures may be required.

(c) SDI - Special Detailed Inspection: An intensive examination of a specific item, installation or
assembly to detect damage, failure or irregularity. The examination is likely to make
extensive use of special inspection techniques and/or equipment. Intricate cleaning and
substantial access or disassembly procedure may be required.

(d) DIS - Discard: The removal from service of an item at a specified life limit

(e) OPC - Operational Check: An operational check is a task to determine that an item is
fulfilling its intended purpose. The check does not require quantitative tolerances.

ENGINE MAINTENANCE MANUAL (PART NO.3072702)

TASK 05-20-00-210-803

1. Additional Recommendations
A. Engine Externals and Compressor Wash (Ref. 71-00-00, POWER PLANT - CLEANING/PAINTING)

(1) Engine cleaning is basically confined to compressor desalination fan wash and / or performance
recovery washes. However, an external wash is recommended whenever the engine is operated
in an environment where atmospheric contamination exists.

(2) Environmental conditions vary depending on the type of aircraft operation and geographical
location. Engine wash schedules should be determined by the individual operator, depending on
the specific operating and environmental conditions. Periodic inspection of the engine externals,
compressor inlet and compressor gas path components for contamination can also be used as a

basis for establishing engine external and internal wash requirements.

(3) Engine wash schedules, compressor and external, are to be determined by the operator, with
consideration of the specific aircraft operating and environmental condition. Wash frequency
should be adjusted to suit the engine’s exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Exposure
determination of continual, frequent or occasional operation must consider factors such as; time

BEFORE USING, MAKE SURE THIS HARD COPY IS THE LATEST ISSUE.
at altitude, home-base environment, destination, and storage in a sheltered, air-conditioned
hangar.

(4) The main cause to determine a compressor desalination wash requirement is the frequency with
which engines are operated in a salt-laden environment.

(5) Salt-laden environment can be defined as a takeoff and landing in area not more than 10 nautical
miles of the sea or, the flight route is not more than 10 nautical miles or will be over the sea and
at an altitude of less than 10,000 feet. The presence of salt haze, created by finely divided
particles of sea salt in the air, usually derived from the evaporation of sea spray.

(6) Continually salt-laden operating environment can be defined as continuous operation (daily) next
to the ocean where the engine is ingesting salt haze or the engine is operated at a low altitude
over the ocean in the presence of a salt haze.

(7) Frequently salt-laden operating environment can be defined as frequent operations (once every
one - two weeks) next to the ocean where the engine is ingesting salt haze or the engine is
operated at a low altitude over the ocean in the presence of a salt haze.

(8) Occasionally salt-laden operating environment can be defined as irregular operation in an

environment that would expose the engine to salt haze or operation at low altitude over the ocean
in the presence of a salt haze.

(9) For the most part, normal corporate aircraft operation does not expose the engine to a salt-laden
environment and the key to this statement is presence of salt haze. On the rare occasion, if the
engine is exposed to salt-laden environment the engine must be washed (desalination wash) at
the first available opportunity after the engine is removed from that environment.

(10) Table 3 provides recommendations to reduce the rate of engine deterioration when the engine is
operated in adverse environments. Air pollution, sand and salt are examples of adverse
environments. Chemical reactions with the fuel and heat in the engine can produce severe
corrosion. Gas path washing helps to reduce the rate of this deterioration.

NOTE: 1. Air pollution: The process of polluting the atmosphere by the discharge of harmful sub-
stances, causing contamination with, for example, volcanic dust or corrosive chemicals such as
those found in industrial smog.
NOTE: 2. Salt laden environment: The presence of salt haze, created by finely divided particles
of sea salt in the air, usually derived from the evaporation of sea spray.

BEFORE USING, MAKE SURE THIS HARD COPY IS THE LATEST ISSUE.
NOTE: 3. Multiple washes are necessary when the engines are operated in the above two ad-
verse conditions. Multiple washes are compressor washes performed with an approved cleaning
additive to water where two or three washes are carried out one after the other in a row to clean
the engine core of contaminants.
NOTE: 4. A motoring wash for light soil or multiple motoring washes for heavy soil contamination
is recommended
NOTE: 5. Multiple motoring washes must be done to the extent permitted by starter operating
limitations. Observe starter cooling period (Ref. Starter Manufacturer’s Manual).
NOTE: 6. If possible, aircraft parked in salt-laden atmosphere must be placed in a hanger. This
will reduce the additional airborne salt residue to enter the engines and deposit salt on the en-
gine rotating parts. If this is not possible, inlets and exhausts must be covered (Ref. AMM) to
minimize the salt deposits and engine windmilling.
NOTE: 7. If the engine is exposed to de-icing fluid, it is recommended to do a compressor rinse
at the end of the season or in conjunction with other aircraft maintenance task.
NOTE: 8. Washing frequency may be adjusted to suit engine condition.
NOTE: 9. General observation of salt, dust or heavy pollution on the aircraft or engine can war-
rant engine desalination wash activities.

ENGINE MAINTENANCE MANUAL (PART NO.3072702)

TASK 00-00-00-860-802

1. Rotor Component Cyclic Life Limits

A. General

(1) The engine rotating components listed in Table 1 are subject to low-cycle fatigue (LCF) due to
cyclic operation of the engine. As a result, these parts must be replaced when the cycle limit is
reached.

(2) Operators shall, as a minimum, record all flights, starts and accumulated total cycles (which must
be calculated) for each component. The following definitions apply:
1. Flight: The act of taking off and landing an aircraft.

HARD COPY IS UNCONTROLLED. ONCE PRINTED, THIS PAGE MUST NOT BE RETAINED FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.
2. Start: An engine start followed by one or more flights.

3. An abbreviated cycle is defined as an engine start followed by multiple flights and one
shutdown (i.e. abbreviated cycles are equivalent to the number of flights minus the number
of starts).

BEFORE USING, MAKE SURE THIS HARD COPY IS THE LATEST ISSUE.
4. A full cycle is defined as an engine start followed by one flight then shutdown.

(3) Rotor components must be removed from service when the ‘‘total cycle limit’’ is reached. Service
life is calculated in accordance with the following formula:

Accumulated No. of No. of Flights - No. of Starts

Total Cycles
=
[ Starts
+
( Abbreviated Cycle Factor ) ] X Flight Count Factor

(4) The service life values listed in Table 2 are incorporated in the Type Approval as issued by the
Canadian Department of Transport. Changes to rotor component cyclic lives must be approved
by Transport Canada.

(5) The specified cyclic lives apply to engines, modules and components which contain parts listed in
the approved parts list, as shown in the applicable Illustrated Parts Catalog (IPC) and Service
Bulletins (SB). Operators requesting approval to incorporate parts not listed in the applicable IPC
or SB’s will be required to substantiate the cyclic lives of these parts to their local airworthiness
authority.

(6) Operators having many touch-and-go flights, or frequent scheduled in-flight shutdowns, such as
used within training missions; or which include more than 10 flights per hour must submit their
mission profiles to Pratt & Whitney Canada for life cycle analysis.

(7) Operators having missions with frequent high usage of anti-ice bleed air, must submit their
mission profiles to Pratt & Whitney Canada for life cycle analysis.

(8) Operators making scheduled or frequent use of the engine’s highest allowable rated power must
submit their mission profile to Pratt & Whitney Canada for analysis.

(9) Components with accumulated total cycles or hours, as applicable, greater than the limits shown
in Table 2 or components not supported with proper documentation, are to be removed from
service.
NOTE: The practice of marking life limited parts with the accumulated cycle count is no longer
required. The accumulated cycle count previously marked on parts alone is not
considered sufficient supporting documentation.
