52-00-00
Doors are provided for access to the cabin compartment, aft fuselage, landing gear and nose electronic
compartment (Ref. Figures 1, 2 and 3). An emergency exit door is located on the right side of the cabin compartment.
All doors are flush fitting. All open outward, except for the emergency exit door. Further, a number of access doors
are provided for servicing the airplane. For door servicing, refer to LUBRICATION in Chapter 12-20-00.
PASSENGER/CREW DOOR
A swing-out door, hinged at the forward edge, provides positive cabin security for flight. For security of the airplane
on the ground, the door can be locked with a key. A convenient stairway attached to the base of the passenger/crew
entrance swings outward and down to provide steps for entry and exit. A hollow, accordion-type inflatable rubber
seal is installed on the doorland. Until it is pressurized with bleed air, the seal remains folded like an accordion. The
seal is bonded to retainers and held in place by a frame and the retainers. When bleed air is applied, the seal
expands and positively seals the pressure vessel while the airplane is in flight. Engine bleed air provides the source
of pressure to inflate the seal. A sponge-rubber doorframe seal bonded around the edge of the doorframe serves
as a weather and pressure seal when the inflatable seal is not inflated. Either a Hypalon or Chloroprene film
treatment is applied to the surface of the sponge-rubber seal.
The door locking mechanism is operated by the handle in the center of the door. The inside and outside handles are
mechanically interconnected. When the handle is rotated per placard instructions, eight latch pins (four at the
forward and four at the aft edge of the door) lock into the doorframe. An inner handle lockpin is used to hold the
linkage in the locked position. Two spring rods hold the door-locking linkage in the locked position when the door is
completely closed. There are eight door-lock indicators visible from inside the passenger compartment to confirm
the door is locked. When the door is completely closed and locked, these indicators are white in color. Door handle
linkage components include the inner handle assembly, outer handle, handle shaft assembly, two rod assemblies,
handle shaft stopper assembly, crank assembly, inner handle lock assembly, outer handle case assembly and
spring rod assembly. Components of the door lock linkage consist of shafts, crank assemblies, fitting assemblies
and latch rods. For door lubrication, refer to LUBRICATION in Chapter 12-20-00.
Open - If required, unlock the door. Push the button near the handle to release the inner handle lockpin. Pull the
handle outward and rotate to the OPEN position, pull the door open and return the handle to the STOW position.
Grasp the step assembly and pull outward, support the steps and lower to the extended position.
Close - Grasp the step assembly and raise it until it is in the stowed position. Press the PUSH TO CLOSE DOOR
button on the door hinge to release the catch and close the door. Press the button near the handle to release the
inner handle lockpin. Pull the handle outward and rotate to the LOCK position then return the handle to the STOW
position. Lock the door, if required.
Open - Press the button, rotate the handle counterclockwise and open door. Grasp the step assembly and push
outward, lower the steps to the extended position.
Close - Grasp the step assembly and raise to the stowed position. Press the door open-lock button to release the
catch and close the door. Turn the handle clockwise to lock the door.

fuselage door in and reach inside and pull the handle down, then raise the upper door.
Close - Hold the upper aft fuselage door closed, reach inside and turn the handle to lock the upper door. Raise the
lower door, engage the latch hooks and fasten the latches.
