ENGINE CONTROLS - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

"Engine Controls" are otherwise called "Thrust Control" as well as "Engine Power Controls" or simply "Power
Control". This chapter describes maintenance procedures for the normal and emergency engine controls beginning
at the thrust levers and routing aft to the fuel control lever of the Hydromechanical Metering Unit (HMU). For
information on the HMU and components, refer to the Pratt & Whitney JT15D-5 Engine Maintenance Manual.
Component locations are illustrated in Figures 1 and 2. A schematic diagram of the system is shown in Figure 3.

The thrust levers are linked to the engine fuel control by a system of cables and bell cranks. Similar systems are
symmetrically provided for the left and right engines.

The engine control cable system consists of a rod, fore and aft bell cranks and fore and aft engine control cables.
The rod is joined to the thrust quadrant and connects to a forward bell crank which is in a bracket assembly under
the center pedestal and changes the direction of the cable.

The forward control cable starts at the forward bell crank and routes under the cabin floor to an aft bell crank
mounted on the forward face of the aft engine pylon carry-through. The forward control cable is a teleflex
ball-bearing type, so that a pilot can operate it smoothly. Recommend minimum bend radius is 7 in. (178 mm).

The aft control cable is attached to the upper lug of the aft bell crank and routed through the pylon to the fuel control
lever of the HMU. The aft control cable is a helix-wound type, so as to have an easier fit even in congested areas of
the engine compartment. The recommended minimum bend radius is 5 in. (127 mm). The cable assemblies are
secured to the airframe with clamps and brackets.

SPECIAL TOOLS AND RECOMMENDED MATERIALS

The special tools and recommended materials listed in Charts 1 and 2 as meeting federal, military or supplier
specifications are provided for reference only and are not specifically prescribed by Beechcraft Corporation. Any
product conforming to the specification listed may be used. The products included in these charts have been tested
and approved for aviation usage by Beechcraft Corporation, by the supplier or by compliance with the applicable
specifications. Generic or locally manufactured products which conform to the requirements of specification may be
used even though not included in the charts. Only the basic number of each specification is listed. No attempt has
been made to update the listing to the latest revision. It is the responsibility of the technician or mechanic to
determine the current revision of the applicable specification prior to usage of the product listed. This can be done
by contacting the supplier of the product to be used.

ENGINE SYNCHRONIZER - MAINTENANCE PRACTICES

ENGINE SYNCHRONIZER FUNCTIONAL CHECK
a. Connect the external power unit to the airplane.

b. Start and operate both engines with the EFC switches ON.

NOTE: The engines should be started in accordance with the approved Airplane Flight Manual.

c. Using the power levers, set the LH and RH engine N1 indication to 80% rpm.

d. Turn the ENG SYNC switch to FAN and note no change to the LH or RH N1 speeds.

e. Confirm that the ENG SYNC ON light on the shroud indicator panel illuminates.

f. Turn the ENG SYNC switch OFF.

g. Set the RH engine power lever to obtain an N1 speed of +2% above the LH engine N1 speed..

h. Turn the ENG SYNC switch to FAN and note RH N1 speed decreases to equal the LH N1 speed.

i. Confirm that the ENG SYNC ON light on the shroud indicator panel illuminates.

j. Turn the ENG SYNC switch OFF and note the RH N1 speed returns to original setting.

k. Set the RH engine power lever to obtain an N1 speed of -2% below the LH engine N1 speed.

l. Turn the ENG SYNC switch to FAN and note the RH N1 speed increases to equal LH N1 speed.

m. Confirm that the ENG SYNC ON light on the shroud indicator panel illuminates.

n. Turn the ENG SYNC switch OFF and note RH N1 speed returns to original setting.

o. Repeat steps c though n for turbine synchronization using a 1% rpm difference at 80% N2 rpm.

p. If the engine synchronizer does not function as stated above, perform the EFC Authority Check in accordance
with Chapter 71-00-00 prior to further troubleshooting.
