THE PROBLEM AND IT’S SCOPE

Introduction

Genealogy is tracing the lines of your ancestors and their descendants. It’s the history of your

family. It is the untold stories of you’ve always wanted to know. It adds details and color to your family chart

offering insights into your ancestor’s daily lives. The word genealogy can be broken down into “birth” and

“science” in the Greek language. On the other hand, sociodemographic including age, gender, education,

family income, religion, and health condition were captured. Logistic regression was used to explore the

association of multiple lifestyle behaviors, anxiety and depression.

Some people have curious about their family heritage and current status. The emotion may not

always be positive ones. For some individuals, discoveries made through genealogical research can be

cause distress and even pose challenges to mental health until they can, be reframed into an adaptive

personal narrative. By way of illustration, newspaper, magazine, and online articles abound with stories of

individuals who discover they are’ not who they think they are; for example, later-life discoveries of people

who did not realize they were adopted (Clapton 2021; R ley 2008, 2009, 2013) or finding previously

unknown close relatives whose existence raises questions about identify and percentage (e.g. , Darroch

2020. Darroch and Smith 2021; Mroz 2019; Theunissen 2022)’. These individuals may experience emotions

such as anger, abandonment, confusion, guilt, sadness, or loss of trust. Relationships may be permanently

damaged. Indeed, it seems that any genealogical finding that challenge family beliefs can be disturbing to

some. Durie, and in his role as a professional genealogist, disputed their assumptions and expectations

about forebears. While many were alde to integrate the new knowledge into their family story, some refused

to accept documented evidence, some became aggressive, and least one was distressed enough to seek

counselling ( Durie 2017, 2022). Also, sociodemographic have common variables gathered in demographic

research, include age, sex, income level, race, employment, location homeownership, and level of

education.

There results suggest that sociodemographic are is important as physical health variables in

affecting a person’s ability to fuction normally in their everyday life. Social supports appears to appears to

play a significant role in explaining defferences in subjective functioning: people living a;one or only with

the spouse, particularly the elderly, seem to be in greater risk for disability problems and should be

targeted by preventive programs in the community.

THE PROBLEM

Statement of the Problem

The main purpose of this research is to look into the researcher’s family genealogy and

sociodemographic profile tracing back three generations only.

Specifically, this study sought to answer the following questions:

1. What is the genealogy of the respondents in terms of:

1.1 . name;

1.2 . sex;

1.3 . age;

1.4 . persistent health issue/s; and

1.5 . civil status?

2. What is the sociodemographic profile of the respondents in terms of:

2.1 . educational attainment;

2.2 . monthly income; and

2.3 . occupation?

Significance of the Study

The results of this study would be beneficial to the following:

2
Students. This research hopes to enlighten their minds that they might begin to understand

themselves that they were unique in different ways. This would also encourage them to contribute

something like improving their strengths and not focusing on their weaknesses being part of one’s

family.

Teachers. This study would help them understand that students think and learn in many

different ways. In return their reflection would lead to develop new approaches, new teaching

strategies and techniques that might better meet the needs of the learners in the classroom.

Parents. With the findings of this study, the parents would have a better understanding of

how individual differences will be handled which is important to their child/children as one of the

vital components in the development of our education.

Administrators. The results of this study may provide them good insights that will relate to

a more efficient and effective implementation of education programs.

Future Researchers. This research would lead and guide them towards future researches.

They could use this research as a reference for their studies.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

To achieve the purpose of the study, mixed descriptive and exploratory methods was

employed with the aid of the survey-questionnaire to gather the data relevant to what is asked.

The independent variables of this study are the Genealogy and Sociodemographic Profile.

Respondents

The respondents of the study are the researcher’s family members tracing back three

generations only. There were 20 respondents identified through

To gather the needed data of this study, the researchers made use of a self-made survey-

questionnaire with the approval from the research teacher.

Data Gathering Procedure

Before gathering the needed data of this study, the researchers wrote a letter addressed to

the principal requesting permission to allow them to conduct the study to the target respondents.

The researcher personally administered the survey-questionnaire, interview process, and

tabulated the collected data to be be analyzed, interpreted and statistically treated.

Statistical Treatment

The data that is obtain statistically treated with the use of the following methods:

1. Percentage - used to define the demographic profile of the respondents.

Formula: P = f/n x 100

Where:

P= percentage

f= frequency

n= over all respondents

9
DEFINITION OF TERMS

To have full understanding of this study, the following terms were defined conceptually and

operationally as needed in this study:

Family. This refers to the full-blooded family the researcher belongs to.

Genealogy. This refers to the act of tracing and surveying the researcher’s family origins

and history (Names, Sex, Age, Health Issue/s, and Civil Status). The lists of researcher’s

ancestors is arranged in pedigree chart.

Sociodemographic Profile. This refers to a combination of social and demographic factors

(Educational Attainment, Monthly Income, and Occupation) that define each respondent.
