REPRESENT REAL-LIFE SITUATIONS USING RATIONAL FUNCTIONS || GRADE 11
GENERAL MATHEMATICS Q1
Materials: visual aide, handouts, chalk and eraser

III. Procedure:
A. Preliminary Activities
a.1 Prayer
a.2 Greetings
a.3 Checking of Attendance
a.4 Review (What is domain and range?)

B. Motivation
 Picture analysis!!!
 The teacher will show a two different pictures and ask a student the following
questions:
1. What do you see in the picture?
2. Do you think the picture shown to the left is related to the picture shown at
the right?
Sample pictures:
C. Analysis
 The teacher will ask the following:
1. What have you notice to the pictures shown?
2. Are they related to each other? Why?
 The teacher will help his/her student to understand the lesson about the
function.

D. Abstract
Functions
Unlocking of terms:
a. Relation – It is a set of ordered pairs.
b. Function – it is a relation in which each element of the domain corresponds to exactly one
element of the range.

Functions can be represented in different ways:

1. a table of values,
2. ordered pairs,
3. Graph, and
4. An equation

Examples:
a. Which of the following relations are Functions?
___/__ f = {( 1 , 2 ) , ( 2,2 ) , ( 3 ,5 ) , ( 4,5 ) }
___x__ g= { ( 1,3 ) , ( 1,4 ) , ( 2,5 ) , ( 2,6 ) , (3,7 ) }
___/__ h={ ( 1,3 ) , (2,6 ) , ( 3,9 ) , … , ( n , 3 n ) ,.. }
b. Determine whether the relationship given in the mapping diagram is a function.

c. Vertical Line Test

A graph represents a function if and only if each vertical line intersects the graph most
once.

Which of the following graphs can be graphs of function?

d. Which of the following equations describe a function?
___/__ y=2 x +1
_____ x 2+ y 2=1
___/__ x 2+ y−4=0

NOTE: in order to further expand and understand the topic, the teacher will send the link for
more example related to the topic through email or group chat.

E. Application
Direction: Identify whether the given set is a function or not function using the
different ways:
a. Domain and range
b. Mapping diagram
c. Table of values
d. Graph
e. Vertical Line Test

1. Set A = {(2,6), (3,0), (4,0), (6,4), (6,6), (9,4)} - FUNCTION

2. Set B = {(1,4), (2,8), (8,9)} - FUNCTIONS

IV. Evaluation:
Direction: Evaluate each function.
