margin. You should not write in this margin.

■ Do not use any rough paper.

■ Check your work carefully.

Paper is set by –

Mr. Ranjana Viduransi

1). Lori makes an electrical quiz board like the one below.

She writes a question on the flap of paper.

Then she writes four answers next to the letters A, B, C and D.

Only one answer is correct.

When the wire touches the metal clip next to the correct answer, the bulb lights

brightly.

When she lifts the flap of paper, you can see how the circuit is made.

2 YEAR 6 – PHYSICS -2nd TERM -2019-2020

a. Which metal Clip must Lori touch with the wire to complete the circuit?

Tick one box. (1)

b. Lori removes one cell (battery) from her circuit.

How will taking one cell out of Loris circuit affect the bulb when it is lit? (1)

………………………………………………………………………………………..

c. Lori tries to improve the quiz board. She puts sticky tape over the metal clips

A, B, C and D to keep them in place.

She tests the quiz board. It does not work.

Explain why the sticky tape stops Loris quiz board from working. (1)

d. Abida uses the sensors to measure the brightness of the bulb in the circuit

below.

She wants to find out how she can change the brightness of the bulb in

her circuit.

Each time she adds one object between the clips, the bulb lights up

3 YEAR 6 – PHYSICS -2nd TERM -2019-2020

Abida measures the brightness of the bulb for each object.

Then she takes the object out again.

How will the brightness of the bulb change when Abida correctly adds each

object to her circuit ?

Tick one box in each row of the table. (2)

2) The diagram shows four forces acting on a plane in flight. (3)

a. Which arrow represents air resistance?

Give the letter

………………………………………………………………………………………

b. When the plane is flying at a constant height, which two forces must be

balanced?

Give the Letters

……………………….and ………………………………………………………….

c. When the plane is flying at a constant speed in the direction shown.

Which two forces must be balanced?

Give the letters

……………………….and …………………………………………………………

5 YEAR 6 – PHYSICS -2nd TERM -2019-2020

3). Yasmin investigated the stopping distance of a trolley.

a. Yasmin did the investigation five times.

She changed the steepness of the ramp each time.

i. How could she make this ramp steeper? (1)

………………………………………………………………………………………………….

………………………………………………………………………………………………….

6 YEAR 6 – PHYSICS -2nd TERM -2019-2020

ii. Yasmin’s results are shown in the table.

She predicted, the steeper the ramp, the greater the stopping distance. If

Yasmin was correct, which ramp was the steepest? (1)

Write the letter.

…………………………………………………………………………………………

iii. Yasmin looked at her results and decided she should repeat her investigation.

Look at Yasmin’s results

Suggest why she decided to repeat her investigation. (1)

7 YEAR 6 – PHYSICS -2nd TERM -2019-2020

b. Yasmin then investigated the stopping distance of a trolley with different masses

on it. The graph shows her results .

i. What would be the stopping distance if 0 g were on the trolley? (1)

…………………………cm

Ii. Complete the sentence with decrease, increase or stays the same. (1)

As the mass added to the trolley increases,

The stopping distance ……………………………………………………………….

4). Ian is at the swimming pool. He notices that the floor tiles around the pool have a

rough surface. (1)

a.

Why are tiles with a rough surface safer than tiles with a smooth surface

for people with wet feet?

………………………………………………………………………………………………….

………………………………………………………………………………………………….

b. Ian floats on the water. (1)

Why does Ian float on the water even though gravity is pulling him down?

………………………………………………………………………………………………….

c. As a part of a test, Ian swims across the pool wearing his clothes . (1)

How are the forces different when he swims in his clothes compared with

when he swims in his swimming costume?

Tick two boxes.

There is more weight There is more friction

There is less weight There is less friction

d. Mike makes sails for the boats out of paper.

He uses a straw to blow one of the boats along.

Draw an arrow on the picture to show the direction of the force pushing the boat

along. (1)

e. What is the name of the force that slows down the boat ? (1)

………………………………………………………………………………………………

10 YEAR 6 – PHYSICS -2nd TERM -2019-2020

f. Mike blows the boat when it has a big sail.

Then he puts a small sail on the boat and blows with the same force.

The big sail makes the boat go faster.

Explain why the bigger sail makes the boat go faster.

Write about the forces on the sail in your answer. (1)

b. All of the boats were made from identical foil trays. The photographs and diagrams

below show the different shapes of the boats.

The children counted how many 1p coins they put in each boat to make it sink. Boat 3

needed the most 1 p coins to make it sink.

Tick one box to show why boat 3 needed the most 1 p coins to make it sink. (1)

is the lightest has the thickest base

is the strongest has the largest base
