On May 15, 2023, after several weeks of steady and marked decline, Reverend Gordon
Williams, at the age of 85, went home to be with the Lord. We mourn his loss deeply
and feel very blessed that in his final days he was peaceful and at ease and that he is
now with Jesus. Vascular dementia can render some people unable to recognize
people or their surroundings at all, unable to communicate or care for themselves,
and it can change personalities quite significantly. Gordon remained himself up to the
end of his life - in fact, some of his famous stories became even more interesting as
he conflated people and places! Through it all, even in the last couple of weeks, he
still prayed with people, recognized Ruth most of the time, and there was always a
light in his eyes when family and friends visited. He was very confused at times and
sometimes upset, but he always returned to being joyful and gentle. We are so thankful for
these mercies during his journey.
Gordon’s powerful relationship with the Lord no doubt contributed to his demeanor. And of course,
Ruth’s incredible and persistently positive approach to what became his continual care created the
environment in which they were able to spend their last days on this earth together, at home. We are
thankful for the personal care workers, nurses and doctors who made that possible, the wonderful
neighbours who looked in on Gordon and Ruth, and helped even in the middle of the night when called.
The dear friends who brought dinners and treats (sometimes on command - you know who you are),
and everyone who phoned to provide spiritual and emotional support. You are all angels sent by Jesus
in our time of need. Praise you, Jesus!
Finally, we appreciate everyone who took the time to send messages of condolence, who called and
expressed their shock and sorrow, and who came from all over to share our grief and our hopeful joy
at Gordon’s funeral. Your kindness, your gifts of love and compassion and hope, the flowers, your
donations to the Gordon Williams Evangelistic Association, all mean so much. Thank you to Rev. Brent
McLaughlin for officiating at the service, for Sean Gerynowicz, and Tina Fischer for sharing and reading
scripture, and for Ruth’s sister Carroll Lee for her intuitive and brilliant piano playing, and to Ruth and
Gordon’s foster daughter, Dr. Connie DenBok, for her remembrances of Gordon and his life. And to the
team at Dods and McNair Funeral Home Chapel and Reception Centre, whose assistance was
invaluable. If you have a remembrance you would like to share, please visit Dods and McNair Obituaries
web page, where you can submit a comment and share in others remembrances of Gordon.

Finally, and most wonderfully, we heard so many stories from all of you about how you first met Gordon,
and his impact on your lives and how he fostered your relationships with Jesus. To us, he was Husband,
Dad, Father-in-law and Grandpa Gord. He will be in our hearts always. Gordon was a true and faithful
servant, and we are all the witnesses and beneficiaries to his great work here on earth.

“Then he said to them, ‘Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men’” (Matt. 4:19). “And my God
shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Phil. 4:19).
