DECLARATION
It is stated that the work ―DESIGN OF SIX STORIED RESIDENTIAL BUILDING‖
reported in this capstone has been performed under the supervision of SARSIZ ALAM,
Lecture, Department of Civil Engineering, and Presidency University.
We have used some books, internet, different well reputed international universities etc.
as references and our knowledge that we learn from the B.sc in Civil Engineering course
for the theoretical analysis of the building structure. We have used the ACI moment
coefficient methods for slab design, The Approximate methods for vertical load analysis
of Beams and columns. All components of structure are designed by USD methods.
We know that materials quality of Bangladesh (such as Brick, Sand, Cement and Stone
chips) isn’t good as we wish also construction methods and use of technologies not so
good. By considering those things we have designed our Project. So that we are so
confident that, the design is as economic as structurally safe.
To the best of my knowledge and belief, the capstone do not contains any material
previously published or written by another person except where due reference is made in
the capstone itself.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
All praise is due to the Almighty Allah (swt) and to the Great Prophet Muhammad (saw),
the best model character for mankind, for the kindest blessings to make this piece of work
done.
A dissertation cannot be completed without the help of many peoples who contribute
directly or indirectly through there constructive criticism in the evolution and preparation
of this work. It would not be fair on our part, if we don’t say a word of thanks to all those
whose sincere advice made this period a real educative, enlightening, pleasurable and
memorable one. We would like to express our deepest appreciation to our thesis
supervisor SARSIZ ALAM, Lecture, Department of Civil Engineering, Presidency
University for his gracious efforts and keen pursuits, which has remained as a valuable
asset for the successful instrument of our Thesis Report. His dynamism and diligent
enthusiasm has been highly instrumental in keeping our spirit high. His flawless and
forthright suggestions blended with an innate intelligent application have crowned our
task a success.
We would also like to express our gratitude to our family, for their unconditional support
and prayers at all time and constant encouragement during the entire course of our thesis
work.
We are also like to offer our sincere thanks to all faculty, teaching and non-teaching of
Civil Engineering Department, Presidency University, Gulshan-2, and Dhaka-1212 for
their assistance. Thank you.
ABSTRACT
The specific objective of the study is to analyze of a residential building considering
Lateral Force and Without Lateral Force of a six-storied building.
The basic methodology adopted here is the sequential presentation of analysis & design
of six storied building for earthquake and wind effect by UBC 1994, BNBC, ACI Code
318-99 Code for proposed places in Bangladesh. For this purpose Dhaka cities has been
selected. Data and figures are presented wherever felt necessary in a readers’ friendly
way. Analysis and design has been performed manually (Hand Calculation) considering
lateral Force and Earthquake load etc.
During the load combinations of Beams (DL+LL+EQ) we have faced some problem but
we solve it very quickly after getting suggestions from our honorable supervisor SARSIZ
ALAM mam.
