Q1. What are the simple field test you would suggest to determine the
suitability of stone for various purpose?
Simple method we can suggest in testing stone in various purpose are the following:

1st ACID TEST; This is chemical process where acid is used to identify the quality of material in rock.

2nd ATRITION TEST OF STONE; Is test carried out to measure resistance of granular materials.

Example of materials subjected t attrition test are stone used in road construction indicating resistance
of material to being broken down under road traffic.

3rd HARDNESS OF STONE; For determining hardness of stone. Carried out on following method. Let A
cylinder of diameter 25mm and height 25mm is taken out from sample of stones, By using DRY TESTING
MACHINE to show well crushing and binding.

4th SMITH TEST: This method is carried out to find out the presence of soluble organic matter in stone by
procedure take few cheap stone and they placed in glass tube.

5th DURABILITY TEST; This is ability of stone to resist in all atmospheric condition. It means in both dry
and wet season this stone can resist its temperature and rainfall.

6th CRUSHING TESTOF STONE: This test done to measure if the stone should be greater than 100N/ mm 3
and help to measure the strength of stones used.

7th MICROSCOPE TEST STONE: In this test, a thin specimen of stone sample as taken and put lender the
microscope the various property of stone. Any impurity present grain, size, cracks and layer pores and
shakes.

Q2. Explain the chemical properties of building Material?

CHEMICAL PROPERTIES OF BUILIDING MATERIALS Include the following;

*Chemical composition of material.

*Atomic bonding

*Corrosion resistance

*Acidity or Alkability

1st CHEMICAL COMPOSITION: This indicate the element which are combined together to form that
material. This Chemical composition of material affect uses of material very much,

So, Strength, Durability, Brightness and Weldability… All of these are chemical composition.

2nd ATOMIC BONDING: This represent how atom are bounded to each other to form the material.

Many of these properties include melting point, building point, thermal conductivity and electrical
conductivity.

To understand this property well is necessary to know types of ATOMIC BONDS that include Ionic bond,
Covalent bond and Metallic bond.

3rd CORROSIVE RESISTANCE: This gradual chemical attack on metal by its surrounding medium.

due to corrosion, metal can start getting converted into OXIDE.

4th ACIDITY AND ALKABILITY: This property is defined as PH value of any material.

We know that an material have PH less than 7 is more acidic and any with PH more than 7 is basis but an
element that have PH equal to 7 neutral. Like water.
