To the Hiring Committee

I am pleased to present to you my resume and letter of interest for the Speech-Language Pathologist position in your
district. I am con dent that I possess the skills necessary to support your district’s mission, with a wide variety of
experience promoting personal and academic growth for all students

For the last three years, I have worked as a tenure-track Speech-Language Pathologist at Mahopac Central School District
in Putnam County, New York. I am from Long Island, New York, and am seeking a position back home. I also worked at
Gersh Academy in West Hempstead. In my current role, I work in a Kindergarten through 5th Grade building and have
gained valuable knowledge in the many ways to support communication, language, articulation, and uency disorders. I
am talented at differentiating and modifying my approach and delivery to best support students. I am pro cient at
generating short- and long-term IEP goals and keeping comprehensive session notes. I also have a wide range of
professional development and skills (such as Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing for Reading/Spelling/Speech [LiPS]). This
knowledge is bene cial when enhancing decoding skills and one of my greatest accomplishments was working with a
child that went from reading at a Level B to Level E in one school year

My experience at a fully special education school (Gersh Academy) allowed me to expand on my skillset in working with
children on the autism spectrum, promoting independence, and using AAC devices. This role provided me with
experience in mastering behavioral techniques. I love re ecting on the growth that was made when it comes to students’
communication skills. It is truly such a crucial skill to be able to communicate effectively, and knowing that I have the
privilege to provide strategies to make this happen is such a rewarding feeling

My teaching philosophy revolves around a whole child approach. It is important to not only target the speech and
language goals of the child but also to nurture the social and emotional wellbeing of each student. Maslow’s hierarchy of
needs ensures that children’s needs are met - psychological, safety, love/belonging, esteem, and self-actualization, which I
use to guide my sessions. As a natural collaborator, I work alongside my therapeutic and building staff, administration,
and families to ensure I am carrying over coping strategies and educating other staff members on how to support the child
in and out of the classroom

While my resume provides an overview of my background and credentials, I look forward to the opportunity to meet with
you to discuss how my quali cations are well aligned with your district’s mission. Thank you for reviewing my
application and for your consideration

Sincerely
Michelle Iannone
