Music Educa on Lesson Plan

University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee

Grade Level or Ensemble 4-6th Grade

Central Focus for the Lesson:

Central focus is to understand how the instrument works and be able to get it out of
the case and make a tone.

Relationship to Curricular Context or Unit Plan (where does the current teaching fit in
the larger picture?)
This is the fundamental lesson for the students. If the students are successful in
their first lesson and walk away with a good understanding it could fuel them for
the rest of their musical journey. When you have good fundamentals, it is easier to
grow and develop as a player.

Lesson Objectives:
SWBAT set instrument up correctly and play their first note.

Vocabulary: (New terminology for your focus, should appear through the objectives and
assessment)

Standards to be addressed: Paraphrase of the meaning (not just number)

What do I know about the students’ developmental progress or prior knowledge in this
area?

Materials Needed:

1.Process: Teacher will explain the right way to produce a sound. Teacher will buzz his
