Lesson Idea Name: Parts of a Plant

Grade Level/Content Area: 3rd Grade

Content Standard Addressed: LS1.A Structure and Func on

Plants and animals both have internal and external structures that serve various func ons in survival.

ISTE Technology Standard Addressed: What would you like students to know and be

How do you plan to implement this lesson and integrate the technology? Check all that apply:

☐ Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the ac vi es. Students are guided by
teacher direc on and expecta ons. Learning ac vi es are assigned to the
student and mostly prac ce based.

of learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The
teacher facilitates the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

X Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems

and comple ng projects to demonstrate their learning. Addi onally, the projects can be shared
outside of the classroom. (Note: This objec ve could be reached by displaying the project on the

Web 2.0 Tools for Communica on and Collabora on

Lesson idea implementa on:
I will have my students go through the Padlet I set up step by step to learn the module. I access
students prior knowledge by asking them to recall how plants get nutrients. I also have them come
up with two ques ons that they want to know a er the module is over. I will provide authen c real
world tasks by giving my students interac ve games and a word search. Student’s learning will be
assessed by an EdPuzzle and their IXL results. I will conclude my lesson by having my students circle
back to the ques ons they asked at the beginning and re ect on them.
Managing student learning:
This tool causes students to move from passive learning to ac ve learning by e ec vely engaging the
students, and having them ac vely engage in the material they are learning. The students will have
some me in class to work on lesson and ask ques ons, and whatever they do not nish, they will
need to nish at home and bring any ques ons to class. I will allow for some in class collabora on
me where they can discuss with their classmates as well.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

This lesson will support UDL because it gives students a more entertaining way to learn lesson
material rather than simply listening to a lecture. Students can get involved in the lesson in their own
ways as well which will help them stay engaged.
Re ec ve Prac ce:
Yes, I do believe this tool will help students build understanding in a way they could not do with
tradi onal tools because tradi onal tools do not allow for students to show their crea vity. I look
forward to the IXL sec on the most because I think it will really help solidify the students learning.
