Hormel Foods company is a known diversified producer of food products. The company
emphasizes quality, nutrition, convenience, and ethnic foods. Over the years, the company has
successfully evolved, and it has been in business for over a century. Apart from the SPAM
brand, it also produces other products such as Farm Fresh, Chi-Chi's, Dubuque, Dinty Moore,
Contribution margin (CM) is the amount products contribute to cover fixed costs (Gallo, 2017).
Contribution margin ratio is the expression of CM in the percentage of prices (Drury, 2013).
Therefore, the variables included in the calculation are total net sales revenue and total variable
cost.
Hormel’s total net sales food products in 2020 were about 9.5 billion US dollars and the total
variable costs which included direct labor, materials and variable selling were 1 million US

From the calculation results above, it is easy to tell Hormel’s sales as well as its cost structure.
