Community Health Nursing

Day 2

It is the second day of the Community Health Nursing Barangay

exposure. Just as the previous day, we were instructed to meet at the school
ground for attendance at 7:30 AM for attendance and just like yesterday, we
went out at 7:45 AM to go to the Barangay Health Center.

Upon arriving, some of the staffs have not yet arrived because it is still
too early. We went upstairs to their Teen Tambayan to wait for them. After a
few minutes, we went downstairs to do some assistance. Just like the day
before, sir Camilo selected few students to be assigned at the front desk for
recording and I happen to be one of the few students who were told to stay
put.

We waited outside for a while, using cellphone while waiting along with
the four other students who was not yet assigned. After for about almost half
an hour, sir Camilo said that we are about to go out and visit the two woman
in their barangay that recently delivered a child. One did a normal delivery and
the other one had the C-section. Sir Camilo instructed us to go back upstairs
to get our Para bag and our umbrella because we will be walking quite a long
distance in the direct heat. Shortly after, we went back downstairs and the
BHW who will be guiding and coming with us came out from the health center
and from there, we went out for a long walk.

We arrived at the first house in which the woman who had a C-section
lives. Sir Camilo instructed one classmate of mine to get the Blood Pressure
of the woman. While we were observing our classmate while getting the BP,
one woman next door called us and requested us to also check her BP in
which another one of my classmate also performed. The findings about her
Blood Pressure was very high and abnormal in which she also told us that she
recently had a heart attack and is currently taking maintenance medicine. Ater
we were done checking the Blood Pressure the BHW gave some medicine to
the baby. After that we thanked the woman and went our way onto the next
house.

It was quite a long distance from the first we were just at and we
arrived at the house of the woman who had the normal delivery. Again, one of
my classmate checked the woman’s BP and it results to normal. The BHW
then some medicine to the baby just like the first one. After that, we thanked
the woman for having us and letting us visit and we went our way back to the
Barangay Health Center.

Upon arriving at the Health Center, Sir Camilo gathered us and told us
to went upstairs to have some few lectures and asked us a few questions for
reviewing. We had an overview the Nursing Care Plan and about the ADPIE
(Assessment, Diagnosis, Planning, Intervention and Evaluation), and had a
few samples about it.

After the brief discussion, Sir Camilo and us joked around for a while
and after more than an hour, we were called to go downstairs to have a free
lunch because Nurse Charlu’s Birthday was yesterday and he had a small
celebration today. We prayed and greeted Nurse Charlu a Happy Birthday
and each had our meals. After eating, we thanked the BHWs and especially
Nurse Charlu for having us and went upstairs to retrieve our things. We then
went back to school and wait for sir Camilo for our afternoon meeting.

At 1:30 PM we met at the laboratory room to have a quiz. The quiz was
more about what the Barangay Health Center of Magdum do offer to family
planning and immunization for babies. After having the quiz, sir Camilo
collected the paper and we reviewed the correct answers. We were then
taught about how to do the NCP or Nursing Care Plan. We were given some
examples on how to make it, provided a sample situation and made the
ADPIE (Assessment, Diagnosis, Planning, Intervention and Evaluation) about
it. We also talked about the terms of illnesses and the values of Vital Signs.
After some few lessons, we were then dismissed for the day.

Today was tiring but also fun at the same time. It was a very hot
weather and I was sweating a lot even though I had an umbrella. Interacting
with the residents of Barangay Magdum was very fun as they were very
easygoing and very kind. I was thankful to have a free lunch and that made
me tiredness from the heat gone in an instant. Again, Nurse Charlu was very
kind for having us and including us in his birthday celebration. The BHWs
were also very kind because they adjusted and gave us their own space for
us to eat in. The second day was not very bad at all. In fact, it was fun and I
learned a lot of things today.
