lesson.

Hello from Acadally. Today we will learn about


essential nutrients that we get from food items.

Nutrients as we have learned in the last class are


the substances that are needed by our body to
grow, repair, and function properly.

These essential nutrients include -


1. Carbohydrates
2. Protein
3. Vitamins
4. Dietary Fibers And Water

First, we would learn about Carbohydrates

We get proteins mainly from two sources:


Animal and plant-based proteins.

Animal-based protein, as the name suggests


includes seafood, lean meats, poultry, eggs etc

beans, chickpeas, Nuts etc

We now move to our next essential nutrient


called vitamins.

Now we know that carbohydrates give us energy,


proteins aid in our growth, then what does
vitamins do?

Vitamins are our protection gear.

They are required in small quantities and play a


major role in healing wounds, and the functioning
of an immune system.

There are about 13 types of Vitamins our body


needs. Some of the most important vitamins are
Vitamin A, B, C, D, E, and K.

Now, let us learn about how to get these


important vitamins from the food we eat.

Vitamin A is found in carrots, spinach, fish oil etc

Top sources of B vitamins include meat, wheat,


and eggs!!

Vitamin C which helps our body to fight against


diseases can be found in cereals, leafy green
vegetables, and nuts. Vitamin C is also found in
abundance in all citrus fruits.

We can get the next vitamin just by stepping


outside because Sunlight is the best source of
vitamin D.Vitamin D is also found in food items
like kale, mushrooms, and cheese. Vitamin D
helps our body to use calcium for bones and
teeth.

Well, we all are safe till we tick our vitamins


consumption in our diet!!!

Now, let us understand another important


nutrient, which dominates more than 60% of our
bodies!!

Yes, it's Water.

Drinking water helps the cells in our body stay


hydrated and also cures the process of digestion.

Not drinking enough water can also make us feel


very tired and reduce our ability to concentrate.

Just like water, our body also needs dietary


fibers as well.

Dietary fibers also known as roughage are


mainly provided by plant products.

The fibers do not provide any nutrients to our


body, but they help us to get rid of undigested
food.

We get these dietary fibers from fresh fruits,


vegetables, and whole grains.
