SLAC on Differentiated Instruction: Tailoring Learning for the 21 st


Century Skills

I. RATIONALE

Every day, our classrooms, neighborhoods and communities become more


diverse (or different). People from different countries, cultures, religions and with
unique abilities, religions and beliefs continue to spread out around the world.
Different skin colors, languages, physical abilities and clothes are some of the types
of diversity that we experience every day. In modern era of the learners, teachers
also encounter different learners and in order to cater their needs a teacher must
explore and use a different strategy to caught their attention and be able to learn.
Differentiated instruction is a teaching approach that tailor’s instruction to all
students' learning needs. All the students have the same learning goal. But the
instruction varies based on students' interests, preferences, strengths, and struggles.
The goal of differentiated instruction strategies is to ensure that all students are
engaged in the learning process by providing tasks that match each individual's
needs.

II. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the activity, the participants are expected to:

1.describe differentiated instruction;

2.differentiate learning styles; and

3. recognize the importance of differentiated instruction approach in facilitating


lessons.

III. TARGET PARTICIPANTS

All the teachers of Siagao Integrated School both Elementary and


Secondary will participate the SLAC.

IV. CONTENT

Facilitator 1: Define Differentiated Instruction.


Facilitator 2: 4 learning styles: Visual learners, Auditory learners, Kinesthetic
learners, Reading/writing learners.

Facilitator 3: Present inquiry approach (as a differentiated instruction) as an active


and engaging way to teach lessons particularly on least mastered learning
competencies;
V. IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGIES

The activity will be done in half day (afternoon), to be facilitated by the


assigned facilitators. The conduct of the activity will utilize practical and doable
strategies to ensure the attainment of the objectives of the activity.The language
to be used will be attuned to the participants’ level of understanding.

VII. DATE AND VENUE

The half day activity will be conducted on March 24, 2023 at 1:00 PM.

VIII. BUDGETARY REQUIREMENTS

The budgetary requirements for the activity will be funded/charged from the
MOOE.
