Research topics:

Will international students be able to find a job they are satisfied with after graduation?

Introduction:
With the acceleration of globalization, more and more Chinese students are choosing to pursue
higher education overseas, with Malaysian universities becoming popular study destinations.
However, whether international students can find satisfactory jobs after graduation is always a
concern. Therefore, this article will interview three Chinese students who have graduated from
Malaysian universities, namely Student A, who graduated with a Master's degree, and Students B
and C, who graduated with a Bachelor's degree.

Student A is currently working in an executive position in a multinational company in Singapore,


reflecting his excellence in the job search process and success in his career development. Student
B is working in Hong Kong, albeit as an ordinary employee, but his experience also provides an
important example of the challenges and opportunities for international students in the job
search process. Student C, on the other hand, has not yet been able to find a suitable job, which
exemplifies the difficulties international students can face in finding employment.

Through the interviews with these three international students, we will be able to gain insight
into the challenges and opportunities facing international students in employment and how best
to deal with these challenges. Their career experiences and advice will also provide useful
guidance and insights for graduating international students. We will also be able to learn about
the strengths and characteristics of Universiti Sains Malaysia as a study destination, and the
career support and services it offers to international students.

Interview:

Background of Student A:
Student A graduated with a Master's degree in International Business from Monash University
Malaysia. Student A is currently working as a Marketing Director for the Asia Pacific region for a
leading multinational company in Singapore, which is a large corporation engaged in international
trade and investment. According to Payscale, a market research website, the average salary for
this position is over S$200,000 per annum and Student A is expected to receive an even more
generous and above average salary package as an executive position.

Background of Student B:
Student B graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Hotel Management from Taylor’s University
Malaysia. Currently working as a hotel front desk clerk in a well-known 5-star hotel in Hong Kong
with a monthly salary of approximately HK$24,000. Possesses excellent customer service skills
and good communication skills, fluent in English, Chinese and Cantonese. Excellent performance
during the internship and highly praised by supervisors A team player who is able to coordinate
team work effectively and has good problem solving skills. Also has good computer skills with
proficiency in hotel management software and Microsoft Office.
Background of Student C:
Student C graduated from UCSI Malaysia with an undergraduate degree in Media. He has yet to
find a satisfactory job and is a freelancer, working on short videos. Due to the lack of a regular
job, income is unstable. Professional skills include video editing, photography and social media
operations. He has worked on several media projects during his university years and has gained
some practical experience. In addition, he has continued to improve his skills through self-
learning. His current career plan is to become a professional short video creator to gain more
viewers and fans for his work, and also to achieve a stable income through his own efforts.

For Student A
1. How did you decide to study a Master's degree in International Business at Monash University
Malaysia?
I chose to study a Master's degree in International Business at Monash University Malaysia
because it was a subject that was relevant to my future career path and the Malaysian business
environment was perfect for me to study and understand.

2. What do you think was the most valuable learning and experience you gained while studying in
Malaysia?
During my study in Malaysia, I gained a lot of international experience, including learning to
communicate and understand different cultures, and I also strengthened my English speaking and
writing skills.

3. How did you land an executive position with a multinational company in Singapore?
I was looking for job opportunities online at the time and found this company's job posting. I
researched the company's background and business and decided it was a great opportunity, so I
actively prepared and submitted my application. I did well in the interview and was successful in
securing the executive position based on my achievements and experience.

4. Did you encounter any cultural differences or language barriers when working in Singapore? If
so, how did you manage?
While working in Singapore, I did not encounter too many cultural differences or language
barriers as there are many similarities between Singapore and Malaysia, including language and
culture. However, when I started working, it still took me some time to get used to the culture
and working style of the company. Through active learning and interaction with my colleagues, I
managed to integrate into this multicultural environment.

5. How do you think your study abroad experience has influenced your career in multinational
companies?
My study abroad experience has helped me to develop my career in multinational companies,
especially when dealing with multinational operations and dealing with clients from different
cultures.
6. Have you ever done an internship in Malaysia? If so, has your internship experience helped you
in your career development?
I had an internship in Malaysia and this experience helped me a lot in my career development
and gave me a better understanding of the working environment and industry development.

7. What advice and experiences do you have to share with international students looking for
jobs?
My advice is to be well prepared and build up a wide range of contacts, as well as constantly
improving your skills and attending events where you have a lot of practical experience.

8. What do you think are the advantages of a Master's degree when looking for a job?
A master's degree can enhance your professional knowledge and skills and make you more
competitive in the job market.

9. What are your current career plans? Do you plan to stay in Singapore for the next few years?
My career plan is to continue working in Singapore for the next few years while continuing to
improve my professional skills.

10. What guidance or advice would you give to international students who are planning to work
overseas?
My advice is to keep improving your language and communication skills, build up a wide network
of contacts, and to keep learning and exploring.

For Student B
1. How did you decide to study Hospitality Management at Taylor’s University Malaysia?
I decided to study Hospitality Management at Taylor’s University because of my interest in the
hospitality industry and the fact that the Hospitality Management programme at Taylor’s
University is widely recognised and respected in the industry.

2. What did you find most challenging about your study and life experience at the Taylor’s
University?
One of the most challenging aspects of the study and living experience at the Taylor’s University
is adapting to a different culture and language environment. As an international student, living
and studying in a new country and culture takes some time and effort to adapt.

3. How did you find your current job in Hong Kong?


I found my job in Hong Kong by attending campus job fairs and networking with alumni,
professors and other people through job search channels.

4. What is your favourite aspect of working in Hong Kong? What is the most challenging aspect?
My favourite aspect of working in Hong Kong is working with people from different countries and
cultures, as well as learning about different ways of thinking and working. The most challenging
aspect is the need to constantly adapt and innovate in the face of a rapidly changing market and
ever-changing customer needs.

5. How has your major in hotel management influenced your career development?
The Hospitality Management program has had a great impact on my career development. It has
provided me with professional knowledge and skills in the hospitality and tourism industry that
have helped me to achieve greater opportunities and success in my career.

6. What extra-curricular activities or societies did you participate in during your university years?
Did they help you in your career development?
During my time at university, I participated in the International Student Association society
organisations. These activities have given me a better understanding of the hospitality and
tourism industry, enhanced my organisational and leadership skills and helped me in my career
development.

7. What advice and experience do you have to share with international students looking for a
job?
For international students looking for jobs, I recommend making use of campus recruitment and
alumni networking channels, starting to prepare your CV and interviews early, and getting
information about companies and industries in advance.

8. What do you think are the advantages of studying Hotel Management at the Taylor’s University
for your career development?
Studying hospitality management at the Taylor’s University has many advantages for my career
development, such as high academic standards, strong faculty, extensive practical teaching and
extensive alumni resources.

9. What are your career plans for the next few years? Do you plan to stay in Hong Kong?
My future career plans are to pursue a career in the hospitality and tourism industry and to
continue to learn and grow in this field. I currently have no plans to leave Hong Kong, but I do not
rule out the possibility of doing so in the future.

10. What guidance or advice do you have for international students who want to enter the
hospitality industry?
For international students who want to enter the hospitality industry, I would recommend
actively participating in relevant activities on and off campus to gain relevant experience and
make use of the resources of people such as alumni and professors, while maintaining a balance
between study and practice and focusing on practical skills. You can also better prepare yourself
to enter the workplace by understanding the job content and requirements within the industry
through internships or finding relevant part-time jobs. It is also advisable to join some relevant
industry associations or societies, such as the International Hotel Association and the Hotel
Management Association, where you can interact and network with people in the industry.
Finally, it is important to maintain enthusiasm and patience and to continuously improve your
professional knowledge and skills so that you can stand out in the fierce competition and achieve
your career goals.

For Student C
1. How has your experience studying Media at UCSI helped you in your future career
development?
My media studies at UCSI have provided me with basic knowledge and skills in the field of media,
as well as practical experience through participation in various media projects, which has helped
me in my career development.

2. You are currently looking for a suitable job, can you tell us about the employment pressures
and challenges you are facing?
The current job market is very competitive and as a freelancer I need to constantly improve my
skills and creative abilities to expand the reach of my work in order to gain more clients and a
steady income.

3. Have you ever considered returning to your home country? Why?


I have considered returning to China as it is a rapidly developing country and a country with a
huge market. I believe there will be more opportunities and challenges when I return to China,
and I will also encounter a new culture and lifestyle that will have a positive impact on my
professional and personal growth.

4. What skills and qualities do you think you need to have in the workplace?
In the workplace, I believe that skills and qualities such as communication, teamwork, innovation
and self-management are required, which can be continuously improved through learning and
practice.

5. Has your internship experience helped you in your future career development? Can you share
your internship experience?
I have participated in an internship with a media company, through which I gained a deeper
understanding of the work and processes of the media industry and accumulated certain
experience and skills that have helped me in my career development.

6. Do you think your professional background matches the needs of the job market? If not, what
are your plans?
I think there is a certain match between my professional background and the job market at the
moment, but I am constantly learning and improving myself to meet the needs of the market.

7. What are your career plans for the future? Do you have specific goals and plans?
My career plan is to become a professional short video creator to gain more viewers and
followers for my work, as well as to achieve a steady income through my own efforts. I will set
specific goals and plans and keep working hard to achieve them.

8. Have you ever participated in campus recruitment or other employment activities? What are
your experiences and advice?
I have participated in a number of campus recruitment and employment events, through which I
have learned about the needs and requirements of the market and companies for talents, as well
as honed my interview and communication skills.

9. What do you think is the impact of your study abroad experience on your career development?
The study abroad experience has had a great impact on my career development, allowing me to
understand the differences between different countries and cultures, broaden my horizons and
network, as well as improve my English and cross-cultural communication skills.

10. What do you think about the future of the job market in China?
China's future job market will become increasingly diverse and international, while new
professions and industries will emerge, offering more opportunities and challenges for those with
certain strengths and abilities. Challenges. However, due to the fierce competition, finding the
ideal job will also require more effort and preparation. I believe that as a freelancer, you can
continue to improve your skills and practical experience, build up your strengths and specialties
and be more competitive when facing future career development. At the same time, it is
important to keep an open mind, pay attention to industry trends and changes in the job market,
