6. If students never know the poem, the teacher will explain the poem
briefly. (Attachment 1)
- “A Fighter's Lines" written by Marzuki Ali, this poem talks
about the feeling of a retired soldier who had fought for the
country's independence. This poem is looking from the first
person point of view of a retired soldier. You will understand
further after we read the poem together.”

7. Teacher introduces today’s lesson to the class.

1. Teacher prepares a text containing A Fighter's Lines poem. 21st Century Learning

2. Students are divided into 6 groups of 5.

- “I am going to distribute a text containing A Fighter's Lines
poem. Please read the poem and try to understand the
meaning and identify the theme of the poem.”

4. Students read the poem carefully.


5. Students discuss in groups and list the themes of the poem.
6. Teacher randomly selects a group, asks them to read aloud, listens
and responds to their answers, and then discusses the poem with the
class.

Expected Question:
● What do you understand from the poem? Can you give the
themes for the poem?

Expected Answers:
● The poet once had become a soldier and he had suffered a lot
to fight for independence from invaders.
● The poet sees the people trying to destroy themselves by
engulfing the world full of lies. The poet says that there is
nothing much he can do as these times are too challenging.
● The poet now urges the new generation to fight for their
freedom. First we have to be united regardless of our races or
religions and fight for the sake of our nation’s country.
● The poet also claims that he cannot affect others to fight for
freedom as he is old and has no will to protect the country and
it is the responsibility of the young ones to speak out their
opinions.

Lesson Development 2: (20 Minutes)


1. Students work in the same group as before.
2. Teacher prepares six pictures that portray a few words in the poem.
(Attachment 2).
3. Teacher explains in depth about the task.
- “Each group needs to guess the words used in the poem
according to the pictures given. "

4. Students discuss in groups and guess the words based on the picture
given.
5. From the words that students guess, provide other three words that
are suitable and related with the meaning of the poem.
