II. RATIONALE

Science as one of the core subjects in elementary school is challenging, but learning
Science could be fun using strategic learning materials. Teaching Science is also a great
challenge faced by most educators to improve the teaching-learning process in order to
provide quality education to each learner.

SIMs are alternatives for traditional learning materials. These can be used to
develop competencies of learners that they did not master during their classes. SIMs are
designed for learners who critically need learning care of teachers to help them
accomplish certain well-defined objectives. These are also module disguised as activity
card to eliminate the stereotype behavior of students on books.

The researcher developed the SIM entitled “The Blue Planet: Water in the
Environment” because it fell under the least mastered skills based on the previous year’s
item analysis, which is attached to this project proposal.

III. PROJECT PURPOSE

The project’s purpose is to develop and utilize a Strategic Intervention Material in


Science 4 entitled, “The Blue Planet: Water in the Environment” to help pupils improve
competencies on demonstrating understanding of different sources of water suitable for human
consumption, illustrating the processes involved in the water cycle, and developing awareness
on the proper consumption of water.

IV. PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The SIM entitled, “The Blue Planet: Water in the Environment” will be
administered to the Grade 4 learners who got below 75% level of proficiency on
demonstrating understanding of the different sources of water suitable for human
consumption, illustrating stages of water cycle and developing awareness of water
conservation during the given summative test about the subject matter. The pupils will
be given a copy of the SIM to answer during remedial lessons or at home as module
disguised activity to help them accomplish well-defined objectives. Accomplished
SIMs will be collected and analyzed by the teacher for evaluation and assessment
purposes.

V. PLANNED ACTIONS AND ACTIVITIES

The following actions with corresponding activities are taken to ensure the success of
the project:

VII. EXPECTED OUTPUT, EFFECTS AND OUTCOMES

With the realization and utilization of the Strategic Intervention Material in


Science 4 entitled, “The Blue Planet: Water in the Environment”, learners with below
seventy-five percent level of proficiency should have increased their performance level by
ten percent in demonstrating the understanding of the different sources of water suitable
for human consumption, developing awareness of water conservation and illustrating
stages of water cycle.
