Filling: Begin to fill the body, head, and arms…When filling take your time. Add the fill in small
pieces paying attention to the shape as you fill. Knit fabric is stretchy, so make sure not to
cram a bunch of fill in. You want the pieces to be firm, but not jammed full and stretched. I
prefer wool filling because it can be molded and formed pretty easily. When filling the arms
use a knitting needle to push the fill down into the arm (bear), or don’t fill them at all (bunny).

e
or
Body: Once the body has been filled, use the

remaining end to gather and close the top. Weave
in end.

Head: Now that the head has been filled it’s time

for the face. Before starting the face take note

that the hole that has been left open is the bottom

cast on edge is the back of the head.

through the bottom opening and pull it out where you

would like the first eye to be. Give the yarn a good

pull, but don’t pull it all the way through (Leave some

one you just pulled up through and pull it out of the

other eye.

Ok, now you have eye sockets…Let’s add eyes.
Tie a knot in the center of a piece of embroidery
thread (about 20” long). You may notice in the
photos my thread is double thick…sometimes I like
to use two pieces of embroidery thread held
together to get a thicker knot. You can play with
it to see what you prefer. Use any kind of knot

e
that you like. You can search “How to tie a knot
for sewing” and you will find several tutorials ;)

or
m
Thread one end of the embroidery thread onto a needle

opening. Now thread the other end of the embroidery

or
thread onto a needle and insert into the eye socket (be

sure you don’t go through the exact same spot you when

m
through the first time). Pull through the bottom. Tie these two ends
in a knot to secure. Cut thread.

m
Now for the Snout. For both bunny and bear options thread single

strand of embroidery thread (approx. 30” long) onto a needle. Insert into the bottom opening of
ca
y

e
the head and pull through the center of the snout (where the stitches are cinched together), but
pl

or
don’t pull it all the way through (Leave some hanging from the bottom opening). Now using the
©

diagonal lines from the stitches as a guild stitch a small ‘V’ shape. And then add a small stitch
m

to the bottom of the ‘V’ shape to form a ‘Y’ shape.

If you are making the bunny option pull the yarn through the bottom
opening. Tie a knot to secure, cut the thread and the face is complete.

For the bear option add two small upward stitches
next to your ‘Y’ shape for a mouth.
Now connect the top of the ‘Y’ together to form a
triangle for the nose. Working several stitches
horizontally fill in the nose. Pull thread through the
bottom tie a knot to secure, cut thread and the
face is complete.

Arms: Attach arms to body. You will find with
certain yarns the arms won’t want to stay down.
I’ve found this happens with thicker yarns. If this
happens you can either leave them that way or tac
them down by threading yarn through the body.

Weave in any remaining ends.
