Theory:
(a): Volume of the rectangular block V.
V=1bh in m3
Where l = length of the block in m.
B= breadth of the block (in m ).
H=height of the block (in m).
Volume of the sphere V=(4/3) r3 in (m3).
Where r = radius of the sphere (in m).

Procedure:
 Calculate the LC of Vernier calipers.
 Measure length , breadth and thickness of a rectangular block and diameter of given
sphere by using Vernier calipers.
 Find MSR and VSR for each physical quantity.
 Calculate the total reading by using the formula MSR + (VSRxLC).
 Find the volume of block using the equation V=1bh and volume of the sphere
V=(4/3) pie r 3.

 Repeat the experiment 4 to 5 times.

Apparatus:
Vernier Calliper
Rectangular block
Magnifying glass
Least count: It is the smallest measurement that which any measuring instrument can measue
accurately (value of one division = LC).
Instrument can measure accurately

Observations and calculations:

Least count is = to the value of the one main scale division/Total no: of Vernier scale divisions.
LC=1div/10=1mm/10=0.1mm.
LC=0.01 cm

Mathematical Modeling:

Precautions:
1. The movement of Vernier caliper on the main scale should be smooth.
2. Take measurements from the diameter by changing the orientations of the body.
3. Notice the readings carefully to avoid a error due to parallax.

Sources of error:
In poor quality of Vernier caliper jaws may not be perpendicular to scales.

Parallax may be there in taking the observations.
