EQUIPMENT TYPE WHEELED DRY CHEMICAL EXTINGUISHER
INTERVAL 1 YEARLY
PRECAUTIONS
Note: Tick boxes to indicate completion.

1. Obtain an approved Work Permit before commencing activities. 

PREPARATION/ISOLATION

2. Check that the equipment tags are as detailed on work order sheet/work permit.  
INSPECTION ACTIVITY

3. Remove the extinguisher from service and replace with a spare unit of the same type.

Note: All part numbers referenced in parentheses are taken from the exploded parts drawing shown
in the vendor manual.
4. Uncoil the extinguisher hose and nozzle assembly from the trolley.

5. Tip the extinguisher trolley over until it rests on the wheels and handle. 
6. Ensure nitrogen valve is closed and slowly open the nozzle valve to discharge any nitrogen pressure
in the hose and agent cylinder, (this should retain most of the Dry Chemical charge). 
7. Stand the extinguisher upright and remove the hose and nozzle assembly (18 & 19) from the
extinguisher agent cylinder (11). 
8. Remove the fill cap (1) from the agent cylinder, and then remove and check the condition of the Dry
Powder charge. Replace entire charge if there is any evidence of contamination or caking. 
9. Thoroughly clean the extinguisher body, paying particular attention to sealing surfaces.

10. If necessary, according to the inspection record, perform the 5 yearly hydrotest as per manufacturers
instructions on both the Nitrogen cylinder and the agent cylinder. 
11. Inspect the safety relief disc assembly (3), replace if damaged or corroded.

12. Refill the agent cylinder with 125 lbs. of Amerex Dry Chemical Powder extinguishant.

13. Refit the fill cap (1) onto the agent cylinder.

14. Connect the Nitrogen charging hose to the nitrogen cylinder and charge the cylinder to 2015 psig
(13.9 mPa) at 21ºC. Disconnect the charging hose. 
15. Check the condition of the extinguisher hose and nozzle assembly and carefully replace it on the
extinguisher trolley with the nozzle closed. 
16. Test all joints around the extinguisher valve for leakage using a proprietary leak test solution.

17. Refit the hose assembly (1) to the extinguisher valve body (21).

18. Complete the service record tag, place the extinguisher back in service and remove the spare unit.

19. Sign off the Work Permit.
