EQUIPMENT TYPE WHEELED FOAM FIRE EXTINGUISHER
INTERVAL 1 YEARLY
PRECAUTIONS
Note: Tick boxes to indicate completion.

1. Obtain an approved Work Permit before commencing activities. 


PREPARATION/ISOLATION

2. Check that the equipment tag is as detailed on work order sheet/work permit.  
INSPECTION ACTIVITY

3. Remove the extinguisher from service and replace with a spare unit of the same type.

Note: All part letters referenced in parentheses are taken from the exploded parts drawing shown in
the vendor manual.
4. Tip the extinguisher trolley over until it rests on the wheels and handle.

5. Ensure CO2 cylinder valve (E) is closed and remove foam lance and hose from supports, slowly
squeeze the trigger to discharge any pressure in the hose, (this should retain most of the foam charge). 
6. Stand the unit upright and remove the lance assembly (G & K) from the extinguisher. 
7. Slowly loosen and remove the head-block nut-ring, taking care to release any trapped pressure. 
8. Inspect the extinguishant and replace if there are signs of deterioration. 
9. If necessary, according to the inspection record, empty the foam charge and perform the 5 yearly
hydrotest as per manufacturers instructions on the agent cylinder and the CO 2 cylinder.
(Do not re-use extinguishant after hydrotest). 
Note: The extinguisher should be fully recharged with fresh Amerex #502 extinguishant every
3 years.
10. Clean all components in fresh potable water and examine for evidence of wear or damage. Replace
all damaged or worn parts. 
Note: It is not possible to ‘Top Up’ a foam extinguisher. Replace entire charge if weight is
incorrect.
11. Refill the charge cylinder with 45 litres of foam solution and refit the head-block nut-ring, using a
new sealing o-ring. 
12. Remove the CO2 cylinder and weigh, check the charge weight is correct as stated on the cylinder
data plate. Recharge if necessary and refit to unit. 
13. Check for leakage at all joints using a proprietary leak detection solution.

14. Check condition of foam lance and hose then re-install the foam lance assembly (G & K).

15. Complete the service record tag, place the extinguisher back in service and remove the spare unit.

16. Sign off the Work Permit.
