It is more important for a building to serve a purpose than to look beautiful.

Architects shouldn’t
worry about producing a building as a work of art. Do you agree or disagree?

When it comes to building design, innovators often have to make compromises between form and
function. It is widely acknowledged by people that the intended purpose of a building plays an
indispensable crux than its structural beauty. This essay will not only discuss why I agree with the
notion but the reasons for my inclination will also be articulated in trailed paragraphs.

In the inception, there are umpteen rationales to justify my view of the agreement. First and
foremost reason, the building should be constructed according to its utility and mainly consider the
people who will later operate the building. To elaborate, If a building is unable to perform its most
basic functions, then it is undoubtedly a failed project. To cite an example, if an architect is building a
primary school then they must consider parking areas, how cars will pick up and drop off children,
where to put the playground, and access for people with disabilities. Another prominent reason in
this regard is, that architects should prioritize the security attributes of a building. Categorically
discussing, it cannot be ignored that, these include features like fire protection system, CCTV, good
standard escalators, emergency exits, and many more. These features are of paramount value and
reprieve lives in unanticipated circumstances.

Probing ahead, one of the main underlying reasons could be, that the world has also seen many
architectural disasters that were caused due to poor planning and construction, even though they
were intended to be an assembly of artwork. It is pertinent to mention that, a near-accurate guess
can be that the architects put so much emphasis on the appearance of the building that they
neglected the other important features that need to be well thought-out as well. The Leaning Tower of
Pisa is a stark example of how the foundations of the building were not paid adequate attention,
resulting that the building being unable to hold up its own weight.

To recapitulate, even though, exceptional aesthetics becomes the principle differentiating feature of
skyscrapers so that it stands out from other ordinary buildings. I firmly assert that an architect
should strive to construct a building without compromising the basic prerequisites like the security
amenities and the strength of the building to withstand harsh situations.
