1. Introduction:
In this report, there are two articles that were read and used to explain how they have been
important for my study. The articles that are used are: Craft Research: Using sources-Booth
(2003) and also there was another one called Rowley and Slack (2004) about literature review.
Another one on literature was the document written by (Okoli and Schabram 2010)). These
articles are given in reference part. In these three documents there is discussion about how to do a
literature review of a study.

2.0 PART-1
2.1 Interesting about the research Item

Chapter 6 from Craft Research: Using sources

They say that searches should be done in a systematic way, ‘Basic searches work on the terms in
the search statement, and prioritise documents in which these words appear close to one another’.
It has described the ways of developing literatures through effective searching and sourcing from
secondary sources of researches(Booth, Booth et al. 2003).

News Article:
The authors have said that doing a literature review enables the researcher or wherever is conducting
the study to be able to understand what key areas of a research are talking about. They discussed the
ways and methods of choosing and describing different available literatures based on chosen research
project. Accurate literature development can be done by collecting more updated researches(Okoli
and Schabram 2010).

Journal Article:
The other one that is in this discussion is the article that is done by Rowley and Slack (2004). They
said that literature review can be done in a way that is systematic and which makes sense. They also
said that literature review is done in many ways and that if the researcher to know what to do,
especially the articles that should be read by the one doing the task. Literature review is defined as an
important writing that is about finding something about a problem(Rowley and Slack 2004).

2.2 Why interesting

Chapter 6 from Craft Research: Using sources
It is important to be able to know why the review must be part of a study. The chapter provided that
it can support in knowing something that has not been given before. In this way, there is an important
way to know about background of a research so that what is known about a topic(Booth, Booth et al.
2003).

News Article:
The article is interesting to my study because they help to give idea about what is done to look at
something deeply. It will be important that if anyone is going to do something on any topic, he
should be able to do a good literature review(Okoli and Schabram 2010). This is interesting for my
study about what and how I can do about if I have to research.

3
Journal Article:
This journal article provided good way of thinking and how to do a good review. There are
guidelines and there are steps and secrets of doing a literature review, so it is effective to have
these articles. They said, ‘Keep in the topic’. Such is a good view that guides the person(Rowley
and Slack 2004).

2.3 How useful for studies/development

Chapter 6 from Craft Research: Using sources

They said that it is important for the one who is doing the literature review to be very clear and
focussed on the topic and not to move away from the topic to other areas(Booth, Booth et al.
2003). For example, if it is about this article that I write, I was saying that it is important to know
what to say and since I start in this course, so many good things have been taught and have been
learnt.

News Article:
This is a good article because it shows learners how to be a good writer by reviewing the relevant
literatures(Okoli and Schabram 2010). The document that is referred they all talk about literature
review, which is a good writing issue. The writers I mention above, they all say something good
about how to write in a good effective way.

Journal Article:
They insist that if it is about writing well, some ideas should be followed like about the topic, about
what to write and about who is reading the article(Rowley and Slack 2004). So it was very good to
know these things. However, literature review section is also good to describe what have been
covered appropriately in the journal article effectively.

2.4 Three key points of information or argument considered important to in 3 research

items

2.4.1 First key point

The articles that are discussed above are important and the writers of those articles have given some
good arguments. For example, according to Rowley and Slack (2004), a good study should be based
on clear searching methods which may include what they call Boolean operators of NOT, AND and
OR. This is important because it gives a guide on how to search properly(Okoli and Schabram 2010).
I think with this what they say is that to search clearly is better so that the idea can come.

2.4.2 Second key point

Another point that I see in the articles they say is that when you write, it is better to know who
will read, not to just write blindly(Booth, Booth et al. 2003). Many people write without idea
about the knowledge, some people they know some information while other people have little
information to know about something. So I think if I write any review issue of literature, then if I
know who is reading, I will know what to write.

4
2.4.3 Third key point
Also, the articles say that when you write, try and just say what is relevant, not everything
because I think they mean that some information that is not relevant about the discussion should
not be wrote, it is like waste of time(Rowley and Slack 2004). Is like when you are talking with
people, only say what is relevant, not everything because not everything can be relevant or
making sense.

3.0 Part 2
Introduction:
In this part is the discussion about the learning that I have encountered in this period during my
time as a student of GBS. In this part, I have discussed about what I learn, how my skills have
developed and what has gone well or bad in that period and how important this module and what
I have learnt is crucial for my interest. I have also used a learning theory on learning style.
According to (Brydges and Butler 2012), reflection is about the ability to re-represent
information that express own experience during a process of learning.

3.1 What is learnt from the module?

This module has been very important because during this period I learnt about how to engage
academically in terms of how I read and write and ensure that the information that I have written
is following some academic rules. As a student, it is important to write in a way that is logical
and can be understood and so the importance of using academic language, knowing about
different styles of writings like reports, essays, etc. and also the different styles of referencing
including Harvard style what is recommended.

3.2 Why that learning might be important?

As a student, I am expected to do things in the right way, so for example it it’s the need to do a
report, I am expected to be in a position to do a good report using all the rules that are required, it
is reading and referencing a book, I am expected to do a good work by paraphrasing. So this is
the reason why what I have learnt important for my present and future as a student. Since I am a
pragmatist in my learning style, I tend to want to so that I have learnt in a way that I can easily
relate with. This, according to (Embree 2011) indicates that I need to practice well so that what I
am doing is academically good.

3.3 How useful to you and your areas of interest?

My area of interest is to be a Public Relations manager, and this means I must know how to engage
people and this module and studies in general. It is for this reason that learning how to engage in the
business world, through clear sets of skills, is important (Brydges and Butler 2012). The issue of
how to do Paraphrasing, which according to is when you change the writings so as to prevent
direct use of other people words in my work.

Conclusion:
This report was about my learning journey during my period at GBS and especially during this
module. It has been explained what I have learnt and how what I learnt has been important. Also
explained is how what I have learnt is important for my area of interest. The skill of doing passive
writing that is looking at the speech that has been given and expressing differently. The main
articles were about how to do a literature review.
