Section A: Research Report

1. Introduction:
This report is about the learning that the writer has got from key texts that have been
referenced and which mainly discuss the issue of conducting literature review when doing a
research. The articles by Booth, et al. (2003), Rowle and Slack (2004) and lastly Okoli and
Schabram (2010), all provided good information about what someone can do when
conducting a literature review. In this report, key interesting issues about conducting
reviews have been given and discussed. According to Elton (2010), it is important to have a
good literature review because this is the basis for any good research study. Literature
review is writing that gathers information to studies that have been conducted in a
particular area and that forms are an important part of any good research or inquiry into a
particular area.

2.1 Interesting about the research Item

Chapter 6 from Craft Research: Using sources
From Booth, et al (2003), this was interesting because it has identified that experts in the
area have said something and therefore it also means that the reader has found important
information from that area. This chapter of the book has described and evaluated different
methods and techniques to ensure good sources for research works and writing process.
Newspaper Article:
According to Rowle and Slack (2004), they said something captivating, because they said
that the beginners in the area of research should be able to evaluate different sources of
materials when making a study. They indicated that good literature review sources should
show what other people have said on a particular topic of interest by identifying what was
said by experts in that area.
Journal Article:
In the article by Okoli and Schabram (2010), they discussed the challenges that researchers
face when conducting a study and especially, a literature review. They indicated that when
conducting a literature review, the researchers have indicated that a good review should
examine all other sectors as well or field so that the researcher is able to identify what has
not been research.

2.2 Why Interesting

Chapter 6 from Craft Research: Using sources
I think this is very interesting because it shows that we don’t read everything, but we
become specific in some areas. So, this I see is very interesting to me. But this is also a
difficult work because it is about reading a lot. Also reading is not easy, but it must be
done(Booth, Booth et al. 2003).

Newspaper Article:
They authors stated that different types of articles require different skills for conducting a
study. Besides, the authors have said that a literature review is not just any kind of
writing(Rowley and Slack 2004). Also, they say that literature review sources should be
about a specific topic and so just that is how one can do well.
Journal Article:
The authors also said there has to be a problem of study, ‘A systematic review would be
inappropriate if the research question is too vague or broad’(Okoli and Schabram 2010).
This is also interesting by the article as this has explained main aspects and arguments of
found methods, research results and key areas of study at a glance effectively.

2.3 How useful for studies/development

Chapter 6 from Craft Research: Using sources
This chapter is useful to then research writing as this helps to understand about how
sources are reviewed and conducted from different secondary sources for literature
review(Booth, Booth et al. 2003).
Newspaper Article:
This was important because it provided skills that a researcher has to have to do a good
literature review. It is an important writing that gathers relevant but very specific set of
information in a particular area.
Journal Article:
This was important because they show why a researcher is making an inquiry and how
important it is for the inquiry to come up with something new(Okoli and Schabram 2010).

2.4 Three key points of information or arguments

2.4.1 First key point
First, the writers who have been looked into above agree that literature review is an
important part of any writing and that a good report or essay could have this part(Booth,
Booth et al. 2003). This is a part not to be ignored. This point means that if any person wants
to do a study that is nice, they should also read about other writing.
2.4.2 Second key point
Another point that is important from the author of the documents that are seen here is that
anything that has been read should also be having references clearly given so that they can
be known where they came from. This is thought when we acknowledge people who wrote
things, it is good(Okoli and Schabram 2010). For example, if I write something, I am not
happy for someone to take that and not say it is out of mine. This is like plagiarism, and I
agree that this is nice point and good one.

2.4.3 Third key point

Also, the last point of argument is that anything that has been write should be clear for the
audience that it is required to read. So, I think that what is written should be using a good
language that anyone can look and understand(Rowley and Slack 2004). So, a good
literature review should now address the audience very well. The writers said that it is
important for audience to know what is said.

Section B: Reflection
Introduction
This section of the report is a reflection of what I learnt during the semester and indeed my
time as a student at GBS. This section highlights what was learnt, why it was important and
how I found it to be useful in my area of interest. I have also managed to highlight my
learning style using a theory of learning style by Kolb.

3.1 What is learnt from the module?

During my period as a student since I started this course, I have learnt a lot in terms of
business management. I have been able to identify the importance of business functions
and also been able to identify what makes a good manager(Kolb and Kolb 2005). There has
also been good understanding about how to engaged in academic skills and I learnt that it is
important to write clearly and in a way that draws academic sources.
I also learnt how to engage with fellow students in the course of my studies, through spoken
and written communication. These are skills that I did not have. I am able to read in a better
way and also to discuss points with other students and thus am confident about what I am
doing.
I am a reflective learner, so it means that I look back at my actions that I have done before
in order to know what I am going to do in the future. This has been very important for me,
because according to Kolb and Kolb (2005), it is important as a reflective learner to
understand what happened before in order to be effective about the future. Having to use
learning skills is very important because I have seen my other skills improve and also learnt
how I can use skills gained for future activities.

3.2 Why that learning might be important?

The learning that I have gained during this period is of importance in helping my to be
effective in my writing of my academic work and in knowing how to do my assignments and
course works. Being able to engaged and write academically is crucial because it shows that
someone is able to learn many things and also to submit a good writing in the
future(Brydges and Butler 2012). I have learnt that academic writing is not just another form
of writing and there are clear rules that govern how this should be done. For example, when
I have to communicate with respondents for collecting data, the communication skills will
help me to contact with respective persons appropriately.

3.3 How useful to you and your areas of interest?

This module is very important for me and my future because this module helps me to
prepare for a career as a business person. As I want to do business, this module can help me
to know how to communicate with others, how to remain confident and how to use good
written skills when communicating with others(Embree 2011). I find that through this
module, I am able to engage professionally in everything am doing. For example, when I will
work as research assistant in research firms, the sourcing skills what I learnt from this
module will add values to my future career.

Conclusion
This document, I have managed to mention the skills that I have gained during the time I
have been in this institution and the information that I learnt during this time. I have
managed to gain written and verbal skills. I have stated that I have seen improvement in my
skills. I hope that the skill wll help me as I will finish this education program and go to those
of higher levels. This is my plan, and so I should be working hard to do this.
