V-belt BRAKES AND CLUTCHES
– widely used in industrial drives and vehicular BRAKE – A brake is a friction device used to
applications regulate the motion of a body (slowing down
- has high strength cords at the pitch diameter of the body, holding the body at constant speed,
the belt cross section to increase the tensile and bringing the body at rest)
strength of the belt.  BAND BRAKE - Consist of a flexible

driving pulley and the driven pulley are drum. They are actuated by pulling the
sheaves band tightly against the drum. The

Roller chains
CLUTCH – A clutch is also a friction device
- A chain is a power transmitting element made of a used to connect or disconnect shafts
series of pin-connected links (speeding up the driven body to the same
angular velocity as the driving shaft)
Wire ropes
- Wire rope is a type of rope which consists of  DISK
several strands of metal wire laid (or ‘twisted’) into  PLATE
a helix
(strands yung basis dito)

 Right regular Lay - in right regular lay rope,

the wires in the strands are laid to the left,
while the strands are laid to the right to form
the wire rope.
 Left regular Lay - in left regular lay rope,
the wires in the strands are laid to the right,
while the strands are laid to the left to form
the wire rope. In this lay, each step of
fabrication is exactly opposite from the right
regular lay.
 Right lang Lay - in right lang lay rope, the
wires in the strands and the strands in the
rope are laid in the same direction; in this
instance, the lay is to the right.
 Left lang Lay - in left lang lay rope, the
wires in the strands and the strands in the
rope are also laid in the same direction; in
this instance, the lay is to the left (rather
than to the right as in the right lang lay).
