Let’s Analyze
Activity 9
1. The environment is critical in meeting societal expectations since it serves as a source of
these requirements for living species, particularly humans. The environment provides
products and other critical resources that are used for a variety of purposes in order to keep
people alive. Because humans, as living beings, rely on the environment for our survival, it
is an essential component of civilization.
2. Biodiversity is made up of a range of resources that assist us in our daily lives, thus
protecting it is essential. We can preserve its diversity by avoiding harmful practices.
Hazardous chemicals are also incorrectly used and disposed of in large-scale operations
like construction and other industries. Through proper waste management, tree planting,
and even personal environmental discipline, we can not only maintain, but actively stimulate
biodiversity. They have the ability to assist in the survival of the ecosystem.
3. Biotechnology, which focuses on gene modification, can be used to alter an organism's
genome. Changes have been made to the genes that influence and effect the outcome of
the gene editing process. This technique was completed by identifying desirable features,
isolating them, replicating them, and ultimately adding them. In general, this advanced
method of gene editing has the power to change the genome of an organism.
4. Gene modification for crops has the capacity to provide self-resistance against a variety
of insects that can injure plants and crops, as well as the ability to protect the number and
quality of crops that can be produced, as well as the ability for these plants to live. It also
protects against viruses, making it an excellent option for avoiding human harm. Genetically
altered crops, on the other hand, have a number of drawbacks in terms of side effects.
Because they are built using the DNA of other creatures, some GMOs have health impacts
and may cause allergic reactions in humans.
5. thoroughly investigated and analyzed before being made public. This genetic study, in
my opinion, is more beneficial than dangerous because the rewards will benefit our basic
needs such as nourishment and convenience. GMOs are preferred because they naturally
produce pesticides and insecticides, making them safer than traditional crops that rely on
chemicals to control insects.
Let’s Check
Activity 10

3. Biomedical and drug delivery
4. Agriculture and food

6. Embryonic Stem Cells
7. Viruses

9. DNA
10. Nanotechnology

Let’s Analyze
Activity 10
1. Nanotechnology has the potential to significantly improve our existing living conditions.
The goal of nanotechnology is to find cures for diseases and problems. It overcomes
obstacles by investing in research and development in a range of fields, including building
coatings and long-lasting designs.
2. Nanotechnology is a cutting-edge method of modifying chemical and gene compositions
in order to develop a disease-curing medicine. This innovative method can also be used to
diagnose and prevent the onset of hazardous disorders. Nanotechnology is particularly
advantageous since it checks extremely minute details, removing the need for a specialist
to prevent and cure illnesses.
3. Despite the fact that there are an increasing number of studies, they are not currently
being used because they are still in the experimental stage. Medical researchers also
suggest that stem cell therapy is less cost-effective. The only stem cell therapy currently
available is a hematopoietic stem cell transplant, which is similar to a bone marrow
transplant. This is the current state of affairs, which is always changing.
4. The most important concern of the Philippines, and indeed the entire globe, that requires
nanotechnology's assistance remains, in my opinion, the medical aspects, because
nanotechnology is a medicine and cure for a number of significant ailments that enhances
life quality. I believe that life safety should be addressed because so many people are
affected. Disease and mortality prevention is far more important than other problems.
5. Malignancies like leukemia are in critical need of gene therapy treatments because
cancer is cunning, hiding, dividing, and remaining unnoticed until it's too late. It's been
described as a silent murderer who kills people. Many people have died as a result of the
disease's widespread threat; therefore, gene therapy is now critical, especially for cancer
patients.

Let’s Check
Activity 11
1. The Keeling Curve
2. Global warming
3. Greenhouse gases
4. Milankovitch Cycle
5. Aphelion
6. Eccentricity
7. Precession
8. Charles David Keeling
9. Nitrogen
10. John Tyndall

Let’s Analyze
Activity 11
1. If the planet heats up quickly due to global warming, temperatures will change in different
places of the world. We are all aware that the temperature of the environment has an effect
on living organisms. Climate, ecosystems, and biodiversity in the area would be pushed to
move, potentially causing harm to a wide range of organisms. If global warming escalates,
penguin habitats, such as ice lands, could be severely disrupted, resulting in the extinction
of many penguins and a biodiversity imbalance.
2. The melting of glaciers and icebergs in the ocean caused by global warming resulted in a
rise in seawater level, which is regarded as a sign of global warming. This is a phenomenon
linked to climate change.
