Just trying to anticipate your questions
How can I reach Leh?
• By Air – You can take flight from Kolkata or from Delhi directly to Leh. Flights from Leh are
operated in first half only
• By Train – There is no train facility to Leh

I am a little uncertain if I can do it given my fitness? How hard is this expedition?

• The following pointers should help you develop an accurate understanding of the fitness
required. This is a challenging trek. You should have a proficient level of fitness.

What is the toughest challenge in Twin Peak Expedition?

• The toughest challenge during Kang Yatse 2 or Dzo Jongo is the summit day, where you have
to climb up to max. 1200 meters in a day to reach the peak. Trekkers have to start for the
summit around midnight, brave cold temperatures to reach the summit. The route to Kang
Yatse 2 summit is challenging and climbs over the base camp steeply on soft snows and
loose rocks. But once at the top, the views are breath-taking! Peaks of East Karakoram,
Zanskar range and Ladakh are visible from the top like an eagle’s view.
• Kang Yatse 2 peak is a thrilling adventure and every trekker dreams to summit this peak
once in his lifetime.

Why is this the best season to go for Kang Yatse 2 peak?

• The best season is from June to September with July & August as the peak summer months
to plan for Kang Yatse 2 . During these months, the trail towards Kang Yatse 2 peak is clear
and easy to walk with snow visible on the peaks.

How difficult is Kang Yatse 2 or Dzo-Jongo?

• Kang Yatse 2 is not an easy peak. It requires considerable fitness to climb Kang Yatse II.
Experienced trekkers attempt the Kang Yatse II summit to check their fitness level before
going for other higher altitude expedition and treks

Is it okay for a fresher / beginner to attempt a trekking expedition to Kang Yatse II as their first trek?
• Prior experience is preferable but not mandatory for Kang Yatse II peak. Ideally you should
have an experience of a 15k peak or high-altitude trek. Even first-time trekkers can summit
Kang Yatse 2 provided they have a prominent level of fitness. Youngsters who pursue some
other high endurance outdoor sports like running, swimming, or playing football are known
to have reached Kang Yatse 2 peak in the first attempt.

Does this trek require proper acclimatization in Leh?

• Yes, you need to acclimatize for at least two days in Leh before embarking on the Kang Yatse
2. The two days acclimatization is included as part of the itinerary, which will help you deal
with thin air and low oxygen at the high altitude of Leh.
How much do we trek each day, and what will be the daily altitude gain?

Follow us on Visit our website: https://www.tsafindia.org

• You will trek a distance of 7 – 8 km daily and trekkers will not climb more than five hundred
meters each day till they reach the base camp.

How should one train for the Kang Yatse 2?

• For Kang Yatse 2 you need to be aerobically fit and comfortable to walk for 7 – 8 hours each
day up to the base camp and over 12 hours on summit day. The best preparation for Kang
Yatse 2 trek is regular hiking in hills near to your city, particularly involving steep slopes.
Brisk walks with slow jogs, cycling or swimming for 1 hour every day for four weeks before
the trek is highly recommended.

Which type of shoes are recommended for Kang Yatse 2?

• For Kang Yatse 2 or Dzo-Jongo, you need waterproof trekking shoes with good soles that
would let you smoothly go through the ridges and glaciers till the top. Buy trek boots one
size larger than your feet size so you will feel comfortable after wearing multiple socks on
summit night to deal with the cold.

Are snow boots and crampons required for Kang Yatse 2?

will be provided to you on the final day of the Kang Yatse 2.

night times it gets cold, and the temperature drops up to zero to -5 degrees. If it rains, the
temperature may further dip to up to –10 degrees.

How do I protect myself from cold during the Kang Yatse 2?

• We recommend dressing up in layers to protect yourself from cold after sundown. Carry full
sleeves thermal innerwear as our first layer followed by a fleece and a down jacket. An outer
layer of a windproof jacket or raincoat is required in case of rain of heavy winds.
