Fig. 93: Tension force test

 The Adjustment Nut should be nearly in the middle of the two pulleys on the left and
right sides of the chassis.

 The tension force of three segments of chain is 20N +/- 2 N; the chain displacement is 3
mm.

Adjustment nut 1 is under the base frame. Measure the chain tension force at adjust‐
 ment nut 2 and 3. It is sufficient to check the chain tension force at adjustment nut 1 by
hand.

Work steps - front chain

n Loosen the chain lock nuts.
n Open the chain by turning the adjustment nut.

Carefully and slowly remove the front chain, in order to prevent the left and right chains
 from dropping off the bearings, which may then require much more effort to reinstall
and adjust them to the correct positions.

If the ends of the hex head rod (pedal axle) are heavily oxidized and therefore really diffi‐
cult to remove from the foot brake pedal, completely remove the hex head rod (pedal

 axle) and replace it with the new one provided in the delivery.
If the hex head rod is still in good condition and easy to remove, then it does not need to
be replaced and can be reused.

n If needed (see note), completely remove / tap out the hex head rod and replace it with
the one provided in the delivery.

4.8.3.2 Lifting the main unit

 WARNING
Risk of injury!
The basic unit is extremely heavy, and if tilted too far to the side, may tip over
completely and cause serious bodily injury or damage to property.
 Tilt the basic unit very carefully and only as far on its side as you need to in
order to move the wooden block under the side beam.
 With two people, tilt the basic unit.
 A third person is needed to move the wooden block under the side beam of
the transport frame. Take hold of the wooden block on its sides only and place
it under the beam; do not put your hands, arm or fingers under the side beam.
 Place the basic unit down on the wooden block.

 WARNING
Risk of injury!
When placing the wooden block underneath the beam, take great care to keep
your fingers, hand or arm from getting crushed.
 When placing the wooden block under the side beam of the transport frame,
take hold of the wooden block only on its sides and move it under the beam.
 Do not put your fingers, hands or arms under the side beam.

n With two people, briefly tilt the basic unit.

n A third person is needed to move the wooden block from the sides underneath the
transport frame.
n Lower the basic unit back down. The basic unit is left standing with the side beam of
the transport frame on the wooden block.

4.8.3.4 Cleaning and lubricating the sleeve bearing and removing paint damage
n Clean rust and deposits off the sleeve bearing. To do this, you can use fine sandpaper
and a nail file. Make sure you do not widen the diameter of the sleeve bearing, just
clean it.
n Remove dirt residue.
n In case of paint damage and surface rust on the transport frame itself, use water to
remove as much rust as possible, let it dry and then spray paint it. For paint work
around the sleeve bearing, cover it up first to avoid paint getting into it.

 Do NOT paint the existing grounding bolts (potential balance) on the transport frame. If
necessary, put tape on the grounding bolts first and then remove it again afterwards.

For those systems on which aggressive surface disinfectants have been used, surface
paint damage here and there and heavy instances of rust may appear on the transport
frame.
Any extensive rust removal measures and paintwork have to be approved beforehand by
the customer.
 Complete elimination of oxidation damage is, in such cases, no longer possible.
Refurbishing such areas to perfect condition is possible, but requires great time and ef‐
fort.
Further intensive use of aggressive surface disinfectants can cause renewed occurrences
of oxidation damage.

4.8.3.5 Install the new main wheels and foot brake assembly
n Reinstall the wheel and foot brake assembly in the reverse order of removal

 Make sure the 2 shim rings are installed between the wheel and wheel holder welding

4.8.3.6 Final work steps

Functional test of the foot brake
n Press down on the foot brake pedals.
 The foot brake pedals must be able to be moved into an inclined position and
engage.
 Both sides wheels of the basic unit are braked. The basic unit cannot be moved
(only with great force and effort).
n Return the foot brake pedals to their neutral position.
 The main unit should be able to be moved.
