• To support the delivery of accurate and timely regulatory data returns to HESA and other
regulators
• Ad hoc statistics reporting for internal and external stakeholders
Reporting Line:
• The Data Officer will report directly to the Regulatory Returns Manager.
•
Specific Responsibilities:
Regulatory reporting
• To work with other members of Regulatory Data Analysis and Reporting team to ensure
that the University submits accurate data to regulators to meet published deadlines. In
particular, to support submission of HESA returns, HESES, Transparency data, PSRB
returns, etc
• To support the development of Ulaw’s processes and systems for recording and reporting
on data in order to ensure effectiveness and compliance with regulatory requirements. To
work with the IT department to ensure that data returns comply with regulatory data
requirements, and to ensure that the data is clean and accurate.
• To work as part of the project team to deliver a solution to allow ULaw to meet the data
requirements of Data Futures.
Data manipulation and analysis
• To extract data from the student records database (or other data source), manipulating as
needed for the required task
• To undertake ad hoc statistical investigations as requested by line manager
• To derive module and course data and statistics, analysing and evaluating statistical trends
and/or anomalies, advising stakeholders on appropriate intervention and/or relevant
adjustments as necessary.
• To manipulate data as required for regulatory reporting, including for returns to HESA and
other regulators
Client Service
• Be aware of the Higher Education regulatory framework, in particular the reliance on data,
analysis and evaluation of that data, to assist the University in its good standing with
external regulators.
• Understand the University’s portfolio of programmes, and their statistical and reporting
requirements
• Through provision of high-quality management information, help to ensure success in any
Office for Students or other regulatory quality assessment
