FLUE GAS SYSTEM IN HRSG

The flue gas system in a heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) is responsible for collecting and
exhausting the hot exhaust gases from the gas turbine. The system consists of the following major
components:

Flue gas inlet: The flue gas inlet is the point where the hot exhaust gases enter the HRSG.

Flue gas ducting: The flue gas ducting is a system of pipes that carries the hot exhaust gases through
the HRSG. The ducting is typically made of steel or stainless steel, and it is designed to withstand the
high temperatures and pressures of the exhaust gases.

Stack: The stack is the point where the hot exhaust gases are exhausted from the HRSG. The stack is
typically located at the top of the HRSG, and it is designed to release the gases into the atmosphere
safely.

In addition to these major components, the flue gas system may also include the following:

Flue gas dampers: The flue gas dampers are used to control the flow of hot exhaust gases through
the HRSG. The dampers are typically located in the flue gas ducting, and they can be opened or
closed to regulate the flow of gases.

Flue gas monitoring system: The flue gas monitoring system is used to monitor the composition and
temperature of the hot exhaust gases. The system typically includes sensors that measure the levels
of oxygen, carbon monoxide, and other gases in the exhaust gases.

Acoustic Silencers:
Acoustic Silencers are often installed along the Flue Gas Ductwork to reduce noise generated by the
gas turbine exhaust. They are designed to minimize the impact of noise pollution in the surrounding
environment.

Flue gas treatment system: The flue gas treatment system is used to remove pollutants from the hot
exhaust gases before they are exhausted into the atmosphere. The system typically includes a
scrubber or a filter that removes pollutants such as sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides from the
gases.

Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) System (optional): (refer to flue gas treatment system)
In HRSGs used in power plants with stringent emission requirements, an SCR system may be
included in the Flue Gas System. The SCR system injects ammonia or urea into the flue gas, where it
reacts with nitrogen oxides (NOx) to convert them into harmless nitrogen and water vapor. This
process helps reduce harmful emissions before releasing the flue gas into the atmosphere.

The flue gas system is an essential part of any HRSG. It is responsible for collecting and exhausting
the hot exhaust gases from the gas turbine, and it also helps to improve the efficiency of the HRSG
by transferring heat from the gases to the water or steam.
