HP DRUM in HRSG

The HP drum in an HRSG (heat recovery steam generator) is a vessel that retains high-pressure
steam and water from the evaporator and superheater. The steam drum also contains a number of
valves and instruments that regulate the flow of steam to the steam turbine.

The HP drum is an essential component of the HRSG and performs a variety of crucial activities,
including:

Storing the high-pressure steam and water

separating the steam and water
Controlling the flow of steam to the steam turbine
Providing a standard for measuring pressure and temperature

The HP drum is a key component of a heat recovery steam generator (HRSG). It is a large, pressure
vessel that serves as a collection point for steam and water produced in the HRSG. The HP drum also
contains a number of functional components, including:

Distributed plate: The distributed plate is a perforated plate that separates the steam and water in
the HP drum. This allows the steam to rise to the top of the drum, while the water remains at the
bottom.

Scrubber: The scrubber is a device that removes impurities from the steam before it is sent to the
next stage of the HRSG. The scrubber typically uses a mist eliminator to remove water droplets from
the steam, as well as a cyclone to remove solid impurities.

Drain pipe: The drain pipe is a pipe that carries water from the bottom of the HP drum to the
feedwater system. The drain pipe helps to maintain the correct water level in the HP drum.

Cyclone: The cyclone is a device that separates steam and water droplets from the exhaust gas. The
cyclone typically uses centrifugal force to separate the steam and water droplets.

Feedwater inner pipe: The feedwater inner pipe is a pipe that carries feedwater to the bottom of the
HP drum. The feedwater inner pipe helps to maintain the correct water level in the HP drum.

Downcomer: The downcomer is a pipe that carries water from the bottom of the HP drum to the
evaporator modules. The downcomer helps to ensure that the evaporator modules are properly
supplied with water.

Riser pipe: The riser pipe is a pipe that carries steam from the top of the HP drum to the
superheater. The riser pipe helps to ensure that the superheater is properly supplied with steam.

Level controller: The level controller is a device that maintains the correct water level in the HP
drum. The level controller typically uses a float valve to control the flow of water into and out of the
HP drum.
