Part TWO Heating Section

Heating Section:
Purpose: The heating part is used to boost the temperature of the gas, notably during colder months
or in areas with low ambient temperatures.

Function: Heating the gas inhibits the production of hydrates (ice-like compounds) which can clog
pipes and equipment. It also guarantees that the gas retains its essential energy level even in cold
temperatures.

Reducing Section:
Purpose: The final step of the GPRS is the reduction section, where the gas pressure is effectively
and accurately decreased to the correct level for distribution to customers or downstream pipelines.

Function: The decreasing portion uses pressure control devices, such as pressure regulators, to
maintain a constant and regulated outlet pressure. This guarantees that the gas provided to
customers fulfills the appropriate pressure parameters with no variations.

The equipment attached to a Gas and Pressure Reduction Station (GPRS) fulfills several critical
functions to ensure the station's and the natural gas transmission system's safe and efficient
functioning. Let's look at each of these pieces of equipment and their functions:
Pigging System:

Purpose: A pigging system is used to clean and check the interior of a pipeline.

Function: "Pigs" are machines that pass through the pipeline, scraping the inner walls to remove
debris, sediments, and other impurities. Pigging helps to preserve pipeline integrity and prevents
deposits from forming that might hinder gas flow.

Condensate Tank:

Purpose: A condensate tank collects and stores liquid condensates separated from natural gas in the
GPRS.

Function: As the gas goes through the KO drum and filter separator sections, any liquid or
condensates present are separated and collected in the condensate tank. This guarantees that the
gas sent downstream is as pure and dry as possible.
