1 Introduction
1.1 The tables in this document give the electrical constants for current and historical designs of
underground cables. The information is based on manufacturer’s data and other standards.
The R1 and X1 values are measured at the maximum conductor temperature for the design of
cable. Solid paper insulated at 65 oC. Fluid filled at 85 oC. Modern cables PVC 80 oC and
polymeric 90 oC.

2.1 The documents detailed in Table 2.1 – Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks Documents
shall be used in conjunction with this document.

3 Deviations from this Data Sheet

3.1 There may be times when it is necessary to propose a deviation from this Data Sheet.

3.2 Where this is required, a Deviation Request must be submitted to SSEN in accordance with
TG-NET-ENG-011. This process also applies to SSEN Connection Designers.

3.3 SSEN can refuse, or require, an alteration to a request. It is therefore imperative that signed
agreement is obtained before installation to avoid the possibility of rework or rejection of the
scheme. Requests for deviations which could compromise the safety of the Public or SSEN
staff will be rejected.
